Greece establishes new Financial Prosecutor’s Office

The government is establishing a new prosecutorial structure to deal with financial crime in the wake of the confusion and public discord created by the Corruption Prosecutor’s Office’s investigation into the case involving pharmaceutical giant Novartis.

According to a law that was passed a week ago, a Financial Prosecutor’s Office has been established, which is expected to start operating by the end of the month, and will be composed of 16 prosecutors.

Story going around that a Ukranian male arrested for people smuggling stole a police car from outside police HQ in Argostoli and crashed it a short distance later due to being intoxicated. Not sure how much truth's in that.

Road pricing could offset loss of fuel duty from electric cars
Rishi Sunak looking at how to recoup lost revenues after ban on new petrol and diesel cars potentially from 2030

The government is exploring options for dealing with a £40bn black hole in the public finances, which would result from a proposed ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars within a decade.

Boris Johnson is expected to announce this week the cut-off date for the ban will be brought forward by five years to 2030.

Go-between paid £21m in taxpayer funds for NHS PPE

A Spanish businessman who acted as a go-between to secure protective garments for NHS staff in the coronavirus pandemic was paid $28m (£21m) in UK taxpayer cash.

The consultant had been in line for a further $20m of UK public funds, documents filed in a US court reveal.

The legal papers also reveal the American supplier of the PPE called the deals "lucrative".

Allegedly, local residents have created a new 'bridge' at Xeimonikou by flattening earth piled up by the old bridge and driving across it. The dangerous manoeuvre is said to be due to frustration at the lack of access between Sami, Lixouri and Aggonas: no date yet for erection of a new bridge by army engineers.

Mouthwash 'kills Covid in 30 seconds', Cardiff laboratory tests find

A Cardiff study has found mouthwash can eradicate Covid-19 within 30 seconds of being exposed to it in a laboratory.

It comes ahead of a clinical trial into whether using over-the-counter mouthwash has the potential to reduce the levels of the virus in a patient's saliva.

The Cardiff University report revealed that mouthwashes containing at least 0.07 per cent cetypyridinium chloride (CPC) showed "promising signs" of being able to combat the virus.

It supports another study that found CPC-based mouthwashes are effective in reducing the amount of virus that an infected individual is producing.

Dentyl is the only UK mouthwash brand to take part in the 12-week clinical trial, which is led by Professor David Thomas from Cardiff University.

Dr Thomas said: "Whilst these mouthwashes very effectively eradicate the virus in the laboratory, we need to see if they work in patients and this is the point of our ongoing clinical study."
