Mandela's lawyer, anti-apartheid activist George Bizos dies

Anti-apartheid campaigner and Nelson Mandela's personal lawyer George Bizos has died at 92, his family said Wednesday.

He died peacefully at his home of natural causes, the family said.

Bizos, who came to South Africa as a 13-year-old fleeing the Nazi occupation of Greece, played a key role in the legal fight to end apartheid, the racist system used to oppress South Africa's Black majority for decades.

Two new cases of coronavirus discovered on Kefalonia and two on Ithaki: an elderly couple from Valeriano have tested positive at Argostoli hospital and are isolating at home; two separate cases on Ithaki, both isolating. Tracking of contacts underway.

Across mainland Greece four areas, including Kilkis, have had special measures imposed: public markets, processions, etc have been suspended, groups of more than nine people have been prohibited in public and in private, the maximum number of seats in dining areas has been set at four per table, face masks are complusory.

Ginger albino seal may need new home as it faces rejection from colony
Other pups have not been paying much attention to ‘Ugly Duckling’

An extremely rare albino seal facing a lonely life may need to be rehomed by biologists who fear it will be rejected by its colony.

Blue eyes and ginger fur set the young pup apart from the rest of the rookery in Siberia's Sea of Okhotsk and researchers say these rare features could be enough for it to be shunned by other seals.

The chances of an albino seal like the “Ugly Duckling” – as it has been named by researchers – being born are one in 100,000, experts say.

Albino seals have very poor eyesight and their chances of growing up and breeding are low to nil, according to conservation researchers on the island of Tyuleny.

Ammunition, probably mines, were discovered yesterday about 100 metres from shore at a depth of 50m in the area of Schinos, Ithaki. Navy to attend and render safe (detonate).

Seems a little strange but, from what I can make out, the 'road' down to Koroni beach is illegal  :dunno:

A lot of news recently about Zakynthos and coronavirus, figures for the period 01/07/20-09/09/20 indicate that Zakynthos was in 26th place in the list of prefectures with an Rt rate of 1.02 while Kefalonia was in 24th place with an Rt rate of 1.04 - ideally the number should be less than 1.

Those living in Greece can look forward to a Personal Identification Number, nine numbers and three letters that are unique to every individual and will replace AFM, AMKA numbers, etc. It may even happen before our grandchildren reach maturity.

Coronavirus: Who are the Covid marshals and what powers will they have?

Covid-secure marshals will be introduced in towns and city centres in England to help ensure social distancing rules are followed, Prime Minister Boris Johnson says.

Marshals have already been used in Leeds and Cornwall during the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the plans have been criticised. Conservative MP Steve Baker said it would "turn every public space in Britain into the equivalent of going through airport security".

So what is a Covid-secure marshal and what powers will they have?
