Exclusive: Visa declares war on cash with plan to pay British businesses to ban coins and notes

Visa is planning to pay British businesses not to accept coins and notes after its chief executive vowed to "put cash out of business".

The Daily Telegraph can reveal that the payments giant will soon attempt to strike cashless agreements with British shops and restaurants, which will see them offered lump sums worth thousands of pounds and free contactless technology upgrades.

In return they must agree to ban customers from paying with cash and ensure that every item is bought using a debit card, credit card or digital payment like Apple Pay.

Heart attack 999 response extended from eight minutes to 40

Heart attack and stroke victims could wait 40 minutes for an ambulance under new NHS targets, but health chiefs say the radical change will mean patients will get the right help sooner.

The reforms mean around four million calls a year which are currently treated as “life-threatening” will no longer be deemed as requiring the most urgent response.

Skala's new Yeorgios Fokas Medical Centre, named after the principal benefactor, will be officially opened at 11:00 on Saturday, 22 July. Apparently it's pretty high tech in construction materials and equipment.

Dodgers face month-long closure

Companies caught violating the tax code are facing closure for up to an entire month, as the penalties imposed by authorities are designed according to the size of the crime, particularly in tourism destinations.

In the next few days the inspectors will impose the first one-month closure.

Closed down for a month in high season... now that might be a deterrent.

EasyJet to set up Austrian base to operate EU flights after Brexit

EasyJet is to open a new European base in Austria to enable it to continue to operate flights within the EU after Brexit.

EasyJet still faces legal uncertainty over whether it will be able to fly between the UK and Europe, and on what terms, after Brexit. Ryanair repeated its warnings to the European parliament this week that there was a real prospect of no flights operating between the EU and UK for a period in 2019.

NHS holds on to top spot in healthcare survey
Commonwealth Fund analysis of healthcare systems in 11 nations finds NHS is the best, safest and most affordable

The UK came first in four of the 11 categories. It was judged to deliver the safest care, be the best at “care processes”, provide the most affordable care and offer the most equity.

But the NHS came 10th on healthcare outcomes, a category that measures how successful treatment has been – a significant weakness that was also identified in 2014. The experts concluded that the UK does very poorly in relative terms on five-year survival rates for breast and bowel cancer, and deaths among people admitted to hospital after a stroke, for example.

A local guy from the hills between Poros-Sami, went to work in America (I think, might've been Australia). Guess he made good money, wherever it was.
