Greek Police Report Seizure of Nearly 1.2 Tons of Cocaine

Greek police say they seized nearly 1.2 tons of cocaine and arrested 8 alleged members of an international drug trafficking gang.

Almost all of the cocaine, 1.18 tons, was found during a Friday afternoon raid at a house in the western Greek port of Astakos, police spokesman Theodoros Chronopoulos said Saturday.

Norwich NDR bat bridges 'are not working'

Controversial bat bridges over a new £205m A-road do not work, putting the animals at risk of being hit by traffic, a BBC investigation has found.

The seven gantries, costing £1m, were built to help bats fly safely over the Norwich Northern Distributor Road.

But data seen by the BBC showed none of the bridges was effective.

Cow & Gate baby food jars recalled as 'precautionary measure'

Cow & Gate and Tesco are recalling 15 varieties of baby food jars from stores in the UK after concerns some may have been "tampered with".

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) confirmed the recall, which is a "precautionary measure" and involves 7+ month products.

If you have bought any of the below products, the FSA advises you do not feed them to your baby.

Instead, you can return it to the Tesco store from where it was bought for a full refund.

Here are all 15 products:

Only 189 migrants returned to Turkey despite EU refugee pact — report

The EU and Turkey reached a so-called refugee deal in 2016 to prevent illegal migration. But new figures show that a tiny fraction of migrants are being returned to Turkey, while the EU is resettling significantly more.

Despite a 2016 refugee agreement between the European Union and Turkey, only 189 illegal migrants who crossed the Aegean Sea to Greece were returned to Turkey in 2019, according to new EU figures.

That figure is minuscule is in stark contrast to the approximately 60,100 refugees who landed in Greece in 2019, a sharp rise from the year before.

The EU-Turkey migrant deal was implemented to stop "irregular migration via Turkey to Europe" and "break the business model of the smugglers and to offer migrants an alternative to putting their lives at risk."

Under the agreement, Turkey is obligated to take back illegal Syrian migrants who pass through its territory in an attempt to prevent them from crossing into Greece. For every irregular returned to Turkey, another Syrian approved for asylum in the EU will be resettled in one of the 28-states.

Turkey has also received a total of €6 billion ($6.6 billion) in funding, €3 billion in 2016 and €3 billion in 2018.

Works out at more than 31 million euros per refugee! Not very cost effective.
