Flood warnings issued across UK as river levels rise after wet Easter

Flood warnings are in place across the country after the wet Easter weather caused many rivers to overflow their banks.

Wide parts of the UK were affected by rain and snow over the bank holiday weekend, sparking a rise in water levels.

By late Tuesday afternoon, the Environment Agency has issued 177 flood warnings, with 26 of them urging “immediate action”.

UK weather latest: Britain to bask in warmest day of the year as temperatures soar
Milder weather to continue as forecasters predict double-digit temperatures over weekend

Britain is set to experience the warmest day of the year so far on Friday, when temperatures may reach the heady heights of 17C in the south.

The Met Office said today and Friday would be clear and sunny for most parts of the country, with southeast England seeing particularly warm weather.

However, the weekend is set to see cooler temperatures and more rain, especially in central and northeastern parts of England.

Oh No...We have to "wait until May"!

I know we're now considered to have the patience and attention span of an ADHD child high on Lucozade and Smarties, but "May" is just 7 days away!

In fact, snow could even be on its way as far south as Sussex by the end of the weekend.

While the UK gets colder, Kefalonia continues to warm. The temperature today reached 32c and not a drop of rain for the whole of April! This is the highest temperature I have recorded for April in the last 17 years.

UK weather: Flood warnings as Britain braces for torrential rain and falling temperatures
Some areas can expect to see the month's worth of rainfall within just 24 hours

Forecasters have warned homes and businesses could face flooding as Britain braces for heavy rain and strong winds as temperatures fall.

The south-east of England is likely to “bear the brunt” of the bad weather, caused by an area of low pressure developing in France, which was expected to hit the UK at around 9pm on Sunday and last most of Monday.

UK weather: forecasters predict long hot summer
Following hottest May on record, Britons will bask in above-average temperatures for next few months

With the country still basking in the glow of the warmest and sunniest May on record, the Met Office anticipates that the fine weather will last throughout June, July and August.

There will be a slight “blip” of more changeable, rainier conditions over the next week to 10 days, before a return to the clear skies and barbecue weather which the country has been enjoying of late, a spokesman for the national weather service said.

The Met Office press officer Charles Powell said the forecaster’s three-month outlook was based on a range of information, including sea surface temperatures, and stressed that it should be treated with caution.

"Caution"? It really means that most likely we'll have a long cold summer with continuous rain p*ssing down.

Hector didn't bring anywhere near as much rain as we hoped/was predicted. It's been bone dry in NW UK for 4-5 weeks now.  :oki:

UK weather: Mini-heatwave could see temperatures match hottest day of the year so far

The UK is set to experience another mini-heatwave as temperatures are expected to climb as high as 28C in parts of the country.

Unfortunately the soaring temperatures will only be felt in London and the southeast, with the Met Office spokesperson adding that "temperatures in northern parts of the country will remain in the teens and low 20s".

While the midweek temperatures are forecast to get quite high, the UK's weather will cool down again as we go into the weekend.
