High temperatures in Greece over the weekend

Temperatures in Greece will be high over the weekend as the atmospheric instability gradually subsides, the weather service of the National Observatory of Athens, meteo.gr, said on Friday.

From Friday afternoon but mostly over the weekend very hot air masses are expected to spread from Africa to Europe.

On Saturday, temperatures are forecast to reach a high of 36-37C in the plains of Thessaly, while on Sunday they will rise further, reaching 39C in Thessaly.

The high temperatures are expected to start declining from Monday, starting from the north, whereas the countries of Western Europe will continue to experience a heatwave.

Northerly winds to ease heat from Tuesday

After a three-day scorcher that has seen temperatures in many parts of Greece reach the 40-Celsius mark, meteorologists are confident that the mercury will return to a more seasonal range on Tuesday, mainly as a result of an uptick in the etesian winds that sweep through Greece every summer.

After western Europe, Greece bracing for mini-heat wave

Hopes that a heat wave which baked parts of western and northern Europe last week would slip by Greece were dashed on Monday by the country's National Observatory, which warned of a blast of high temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday.

For Athens, Meteo has forecast daytime highs of 35-38 degrees Celsius between Wednesday and Friday, with the worst of the heat seen in central parts of the mainland and the northern-northeastern Aegean, where temperatures will reach 41 Celsius at times.

Might get a tad warmer on Kef but low thirties looks likely.

Fresh weather system Eteocles bringing storms and snow

A fresh low-pressure weather system is bringing heavy rainfall to most parts of Greece on Friday, as well as snow in the uplands of northern and central Greece, the National Observatory’s Meteo weather service has reported.

Dubbed Eteocles after the king of Thebes and Oedipus’ “truly glorious” son by the Greek weather service, the system will be sweeping in from the Adriatic after dumping large volumes of rain and snow on Italy and the Alps, and while brief, it is expected to be quite severe.

The islands of the Ionian...  will be the first to be hit by the system.

Unseasonably Warm Weather to Be Followed by Freezing Cold in Greece

Unseasonally warm air masses that began to cover large parts of Europe began affecting Greece on Saturday.

This weather system has brought unseasonably warm weather for the time of year in all of Greece.

According to the National Observatory of Athens weather service ”Meteo”, this “warm invasion” is expected to continue, as even hotter air masses approach the Mediterranean Sea.

There will be a gradual but significant drop in temperatures starting on Wednesday, though, with the initial forecast showing freezing temperatures across large parts of the country.
