Greek Auditors Find Another 24.5 Million Euros in Tax Cheating

The unstoppable phenomenon of tax evasion in Greece - sometimes called a national sport - is even worse than thought, auditors from the state’s Authority for Public Revenue (IAPR) uncovering another 24.5 million euros ($29.21 million.)

That was from 2014-19, the state-run Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA said, in only 36 cases of cheats including medical practices and computer services to hair salons, sports clubs and advertising agencies.

'Pocket parks' are helping Athens tackle pollution

Greece's capital, Athens, has started creating “pocket parks” to tackle its pollution and heat.

The parks transform small plots formerly filled with garbage and weeds into green spaces.

The project is part of wider measures to make the city greener, cooler and improving quality of life, the mayor says.

Closed roads have become pedestrian and bike routes, and old fountains, which lower temperatures and improve air quality, are being repaired.

Culture and environment ministry initiative for dangerous derelict buildings

Culture Minister Lina Mendoni and the Deputy Environment and Energy Minister Nikos Tagaras are working on new legislation that aims to speed up the process for demolishing dangerous buildings that are at risk of collapsing, an environment ministry press release said on Monday.
