Giant Arctic air mass to bring snow and ice to Britain next week
Freezing overnight conditions expected in parts of the UK as Arctic air mass sweeps in

Accumulations of up to 20mm are possible "quite widely" and the Met Office warned of the continued risk of flooding in areas where the ground was already swamped from a record-breaking December.

Strong to gale force south-easterly winds could prove an additional hazard, forecasters predicted.

After the weekend, colder and drier conditions will spread southwards and create conditions typical for January.

By the middle of next week, temperatures are predicted to plummet, ranging between 0C and 5C, and there will be a mix of sunshine and showers.

The Met Office said: "These showers are increasingly likely to fall as sleet or snow to low levels across the north of the UK.

"There is also a risk of some sleet and snow in the south, although many areas here are likely to be dry with some sunshine for much of the time."

Funnily enough, it was warmer in my car this morning than in my house. Think I may move into my car during this cold snap!

Might yet get a chance to build a snowperson, Bob:

UK weather: Snow could threaten London by midweek
Britain braces for another week of wintry weather with snow forecast following the lowest recorded temperatures for four years

Lindsay Mears from the Met Office said:..."Snow is a real possibility in the Midlands and East England and even as far south as London from Wednesday. Though we’re not expecting a significant amount – no more than 2 cm."
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/weather/12157730/UK-weather-Bitterly-cold-snap-to-continue-into-the-week.html

Well, maybe a little snowperson.
