Sorry to hear about your boat Roger but glad nobody was injured on the island, hoping the cats are ok too.
It's been a bad enough year already for taverna & business owners and workers without this as well, should have been coming to Katelios on Monday for a few weeks of cat feeding   :) but unfortunately not this year.

I wrote the above post as the eye was passing. Then the wind came from another direction with gusts of F12 (hurricane). Unfortunately while I was away from the harbour, my boat broke free and came to rest on a fishing boat. This caused damage to stanchions, pushpit and rudder box. Could have been a lot worse and there was plenty of help around. Work for the winter.

So sorry to hear about your boat. Keep safe.

Is that Ostria (as was)? B*ggered their trade! But they don't mess around, that tree is probably chopped into logs for the fire by now.

Sorry to hear about the boat... just by the way, Sheila OK?

Drapano (aka de Bosset) Bridge damaged, not sure if structurally but certainly cosmetically. The road between Assos and Myrtos has gone.

If you haven't seen them already there's pics on the 'net from Assos, cars buried upto their roofs and severe erosion under at least one property.  Several roads in the Assos - Agia Efimia area suffered severe erosion damage. Trees down everywhere.

Edit: Nikos Hardalias, Deputy Minister of Civil Protection, is due to fly into Kef to assess the damage. No more news as yet.

Roads closed due to damage, to be re-opened after repair:

Sami-Poros road at Pyrgi;
Divarata-Angona-Argostoli road at 'Signori' near Angona;
Argostoli-Dilinata road from the Drapano chruch to Dilinata.

Diversions in place but beware dangers on the roads generally, essential traffic movement only advised.

I have friends that live in Assos and had a limited conversation with them (they don't want to use their phones too much as no electric supply to re-charge them) and it is the worst they have ever seen it. Water and stones running straight through houses. Food and fresh water expected to be delivered later today or early tomorrow morning.

Sheila is in the UK for a few weeks, so missed all the excitement.

I believe that the island should have been declared a disaster zone, as had been suggested.

As an aside to this disaster, the swallows and swifts have taken a battering. There are thousands of bodies everywhere, even floating in the harbour. The ones that have survived are trying to keep warm and saving energy by roosting on the ground. The roads are warmest and then they are getting run over.

A couple of videos posted on youtube:

Looking at the devastation around the island it looks like a disaster zone. And at present it's looking like more thunderstorms to come: Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday - but just the usual thunderstorms. Forecast may improve as the days approach.

I known the man in the second video. His name is Christos and he and his family own the Platanos Restaurant in the Assos square. Very sad to see such destruction to a place that I know and love. Hopefully, Assos will be rebuilt to its former glory.

I just couldnt believe the news. We flew out of Kef on Saturday 12th September after the most  wonderful 2 weeks we have enjoyed on the island in all our 15 years of coming.  I havent seen any photographs of the damage in Skala and I hope all our friends are safe and well.  The taverna shown in the pictures of Katelios is now called Marias and we enjoyed a super meal there one evening, the trees are huge old euclyptus specimens.  After all the trials of covid 19 mother nature throws this at the island, she can be a cruel old lady!  We know the people of Kefalonia are a resilient lot and will fight to restore the island to all it's wonderful glory.  Our thoughts are with you all and we will be back in 2021.

Storms bring more heavy rain, high winds to Ionian islands

Just a few days after Cyclone Ianos wreaked havoc on several Ionian islands and in central Greece, stormy weather battered other islands in the Ionian Sea on Wednesday, provoking more flooding.

On Corfu, the fire service received numerous calls to pump out flooded homes and stores while similar incidents were reported on Paxos.

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection appealed to islanders to avoid unnecessary travel while the bad weather continues.

Thunderstorms forecast overnight by EMY for the Eptanisa, although it will probably affect the north more than Kefalonia: http://meteoalarm.eu/en_UK/0/0/GR010-Greece.html

As it looks at the moment, Friday should be reasonably pleasant but with thunderstorms overnight and into Saturday, when Kefalonia will see more thunderstorms and strong winds; thunderstorms again Monday.

Looking like a reasonably good day Friday until late evening when thunderstorms and heavy rain due to roll in, lasting most of the day Saturday.

Western Greece to come under fresh storm pressure

The islands of the Ionian and the western mainland should brace for more storms starting on Friday night and persisting through Saturday, the national weather service, EMY, said, warning of strong downpours and winds reaching speeds of 8 on the Beaufort scale.

EMY said that the new wet front will sweep in from the southwest, hitting the Ionian islands – which have been battered by cyclone Ianos and storms in recent days – and Epirus on Friday night.

The Civil Protection Agency issued an advisory, meanwhile, warning residents and visitors in those parts of the country affected by storms not to venture outside without good reason or engage in unnecessary outdoor or marine activities.

That's the EMY forecast for the Eptanisa as a whole, so far it's looking as though Kefalonia will get thunderstorms and heavy rain tomorrow, most likely in the morning.
