Title: Free Greek wine
Post by: Maik on Thursday, 24 August, 2017 @ 02:16:54
No, it's not the Robola Wine Festival all over again! This is for those in the UK, where it's not easy to get Greek wines at a decent price. As far as I know, there's only two Greek wines stocked in the supermarkets: Mavrodaphne of Patras (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mavrodafni) and Retsina (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retsina) (which is getting harder to find):

        Waitrose 75 cl £6.95 (http://www.waitrose.com/shop/DisplayProductFlyout?productId=210682)              Tesco 75 cl £6.00 (https://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=253313847)       Asda 75 cl £5.78 (https://groceries.asda.com/product/all-other-grapes/mavrodaphne-of-patras-nyx/910002715535)        Morrisons 75 cl £5.50 (https://groceries.morrisons.com/webshop/product/Mavrodaphne-of-Patras-Sweet-Red-Wine/122446011)

Sainsbury's 75 cl £5.50 (http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/kourtaki-mavrodaphne-of-patras-sweet-red-75cl)   Sainsbury's 75 cl £5.50 (http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/kourtakis-retsina)

If you haven't already seen the ads, Sainsbury's are currently offering 25% off the price of six or more bottles of wine. Normally £5.50 a bottle for Kourtaki Mavrodaphne or Retsina, the price for six bottles would be £33. This offer brings the price down to £4.125 a bottle, making a total of £24.75 for six bottles. For the normal price of £33 you now get 8 bottles, or two 'free'.

So far as I know, the offer ends Tuesday, 29 August.

If you can't find Mavrodaphne in with the red wines at Tesco, try the 'Other' section in white wines  :iroll:

For those in the UK...

Well, Greek-style week at Lidl (https://www.lidl.co.uk/en/Offers.htm?id=316), some of the stuff is clearly labelled as "Produced in Germany" although quite a bit comes from Greece.

Such as the Mythos (https://www.lidl.co.uk/en/Offers.htm?articleId=5663) and ouzo (https://www.lidl.co.uk/en/Offers.htm?articleId=5662)   :)

25% off Mavrodaphne at Tesco until 18/09/17, makes it £4.50 /bottle, 8 bottles for usual price of six.
Try the White Wine section if you can't find it  ;)

Some good reasons from the Telegraph to drink it: Red wine: the unexpected health benefits (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health-fitness/nutrition/red-wine-unexpected-health-benefits/)
