Changes to Barclays Bank accounts

If you’re resident in Greece and are affected by Barclays Bank’s decision to close UK Barclays Bank accounts which hold funds of less than £100,000, you should call Barclays’ Specialist Team on +44 (0) 191 541 2000 for advice. If you’re in receipt of a UK state pension you can also contact the International Pension Centre to discuss pension payment options. The British Embassy can’t advise or help individuals with private financial matters. You may wish to seek independent financial advice.

Can confirm that from March 2016, letters will be sent out to Greek residents (Ex pats) with Barclays Bank accounts informing them that they will have 12 days to close there accounts and will be unable to Bank with Barclays whilst living abroad.
Letters have already been sent to Cyprus residents, and they will be shut down from the 12th September 2015.
I happened to be in the U K last week and having seen the above entry asked what was behind it...The branch manager and one of the staff informed me "It"s probably a scam"   I informed Barclays Premier about what this is all about, and last night received a personal telephone call from a Steven Mitchell from Barclays.  It appears that as they have  made many mistakesa re P P I, the Libor cases, and have had to pay out millions, they now have to appear squeaky clean and have drawn up and made  corporate decision on many countries that have financial problems, therefore Cyprus, Greece, and Malta, Barclays have withdrawn facilities and are looking to cease trading with those countries....
