Strange news from Zakynthos. From what I can make out, early yesterday afternoon two men on a motorcycle, possibly dressed to resemble police officers, opened fire on a couple on a motorcycle in the Lithakia area. The female passenger died at the scene, her husband was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries and is expected to be airlifted to hospital in Athens. The couple, who were both married previously, have a young son and are well known locally as business people, owning tourist accommodation, a car rental company and a boat hire business. According to local reports, the husband previously served time in prison for drug dealing and pimping. Passengers on ferries leaving the island will be subject to close police scrutiny.
