Eighteen new coronavirus cases confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY, one on Ithaka

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8785 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0720 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1383 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9328 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

'Houdini' cat reappears NINE years after vanishing in York

‘Houdini’ - real name Mia - had a habit of loitering around platforms at York Railway Station and it is thought she may have found her way onto a train all those years ago.

Her owner Tracy Durham, who lives in Holgate, York, had lost hope of ever seeing her cat again.

But two weeks ago she was contacted by the RSPCA to say Mia had been found - in Oldham, near Manchester!

Fire broke out in Napier Gardens, Argostoli, earlier this afternoon but was extinguished by local firefighters before getting a hold and damaging any trees. Allegedly two 'suspicious persons' were seen at the scene shortly before the fire, police awaiting official report from fire service.

Nice looking new website for anyone wanting to see Ithaka: https://www.ithacatrails.gr/index.php/en/

Might not be finished yet as some of the links in the English-language version revert to the Greek-language version.

Cats who live together know each other by name, Japanese study finds
A total of 48 cats which cohabitated with at least two other pets — either with a family in their home or at a cat cafe — were studied

Cats who live together with their other feline companions identify and learn each other’s names, a new study in Japan has shown.

This discovery, made by scientists in Kyoto University and other institutions, was after studying 48 cats which cohabitated with at least two other pets — either with a family in their home or at a cat cafe. Of these, 29 cats were living in a cafe and the other 19 were domestic pets.

The study branched out in two experiments to decode the cognitive abilities of cats, where in the first exercise, all 48 cats were shown their fellow feline’s photo, who they lived with.

In the course of the study, the responses from the cats were monitored whenever a name of the cat or a completely unrelated name was called. The cats were tested individually in a familiar room, the study said.

According to the scientists, if the cat stared at a photo longer, it was a definite sign that the cat knew the pictured animal’s real name.

One cat, according to the study, “completed only the first trial before escaping from the room and climbing out of reach”.
