Title: First crematorium

The first crematorium in Greece is planned for the city of Volos, Central Greece.

The main opponent to the opening of crematoria in Greece is the Greek Orthodox Church, which does not permit the burning of corpses, as it is held to be against the rules of Christianity. Those families who choose to have the corpse cremated are currently forced to ship the remains of their loved one out of Greece.

Which explains why a lot of  traditional Greek houses have what's left of granny in a box on the mantelpiece, especially if the burial plot rent has not been payed and granny is dug up put in a pillow case and left for collection by relatives. Cremation sounds a good solution if the powers that be can agree on it.

And cremation could create more room on many a mantelpiece...
