Chinese tycoon agrees to buy London mansion for record £200m

... making it by far the most expensive house to be sold in the UK.

The Knightsbridge house, which was built in the 1830s, features approximately 45 rooms including grand staterooms, 20 bedrooms, a swimming pool, private health spa and gym and underground parking for several cars. There are also “several passenger lifts” and a wing of staff rooms.

The house is located just south of Kensington Gardens and 68 of its windows have a park view.

Holidaymakers could see spending money go further in 2020

Holidaymakers could see their spending money go further in 2020 as the pound packs more of a punch than a year ago, according to the Post Office.

Thirty-four of its 40 best-selling currencies are weaker against sterling than a year ago, including the euro and the US dollar.

As well as sterling strengthening, local price cuts have also been made in some destinations, in a further boost for UK travellers, the report found.

Apparently the fishing shelter at Atheras is under threat as it's never been legalised. In case you're scratching your head it's the pile of rocks to the left of the beach as you look out to sea, just past the church of Agios Spyridon: Google maps

Hey ho!

Iran plane crash: Ukrainian jet was 'unintentionally' shot down

Iran has admitted "unintentionally" shooting down a Ukrainian passenger jet, killing all 176 people on board.

An investigation found that "missiles fired due to human error", President Hassan Rouhani said. He described the crash as an "unforgivable mistake".

The military said the jet turned towards a sensitive site belonging to Iran's Revolutionary Guards and was then mistaken for a cruise missile.

Iran had previously rejected suggestions that it was to blame.

Istanbul earthquake: Powerful 4.8-magnitude quake strikes Turkey’s biggest city

An earthquake has hit Turkey's largest city, Istanbul.

A seismic event measuring 4.8 magnitude struck 63 kilometres west of the city at around 4:38pm local time, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre said.

Concerned residents reported feeling tremors strong enough to shake buildings, although it is not yet known if there are casualties or any damage to property.

The city's mayor Ekrem Imamoglu confirmed the magnitude and said so far authorities were not yet aware of any negative impacts.

He said the event in the Marmara Sea occurred at a depth of 16 kilometres.
