Regional airline Flybe in frantic bid to stave off collapse
The government is assessing whether it can help to prevent the collapse of one of the UK's biggest airlines, Sky News learns.

Flybe, Europe's biggest regional airline, was locked in survival talks on Sunday night less than a year after being bailed out by a Virgin Atlantic-led consortium.

If Flybe is unable to stitch together a rescue deal, it would be the second major airline collapse in four months, following Thomas Cook Group's implosion last September.

Flybe operates about 75 aircraft and serves more than 80 airports across the UK and Europe.

Venice canals almost run dry just two months after flooding
Although the water levels in the city's famous canals rise and fall with the tide, exceptionally low tides have left canals bare.

Just weeks after serious flooding caused widespread damage, the famous canals of Venice have been left almost completely dry due to exceptionally low tides.

Dame Helen Mirren voices animation warning of ‘devastating’ plant disease

Dame Helen Mirren is backing efforts to keep deadly plant disease Xylella out of the UK by voicing an animation warning of the risks it poses.

The bacterium Xylella fastidiosa can infect more than 500 species of plant, including garden favourites such as lavender, oleander, rosemary and flowering cherry.

It prevents water travelling from roots to leaves, causing leaf scorch, wilt, die-back and plant death.

The disease, which has no known cure, is not present in the UK but has been on the march in Europe, devastating olive groves in Puglia, Italy, while outbreaks have also been found in France, Spain and Portugal.

Greek Ferry Operators Increase Fares by 6%

Greek ferry operators increased fares by 6 percent this week citing higher fuel costs due to the implementation of IMO 2020, the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) low sulphur regulation.

In efforts to keep prices down, a number of ferry operators have opted to invest in the installation of air pollution control devices known as scrubbers. The installation of this device is estimated at costing approximately 5 million euros per ship.

Furniture anchoring kit: might be handy for securing wardrobes, TVs, etc in the event of earthquakes on Kef. Could also be useful if you live in the UK and have young kids, should stop your kiddie accidentally pulling one down on top of them and getting crushed (sadly, it happens).
