Coronavirus: Social gatherings above six banned in England from 14 September

Social gatherings of more than six people will be illegal in England from Monday - with some exemptions - amid a steep rise in coronavirus cases.

A new legal limit will ban larger groups meeting anywhere socially indoors or outdoors, No 10 said.

But it will not apply to schools, workplaces or Covid-secure weddings, funerals and organised team sports.

Several exemptions apply to the new rules - which come into force on 14 September - with households and support bubbles bigger than six people unaffected.

A full list of exemptions will be published by the government later.

Latest I've heard, the fire in Faraklata is in recession, largely due to the two local PZLs and an 'imported' Erickson which were deployed soon after first light in support of the ground crews.

Former Thomas Cook staff poised to launch Sunny Heart Travel

A team of former Thomas Cook staff is poised to launch an online tour operator called Sunny Heart Travel.

A ‘sunny heart’ logo was synonymous with Thomas Cook from 2013 until its collapse in September last year.

Sunny Heart Travel, which has a logo showing heart-shaped sunglasses, has been in development for the last year by ex-IT staff from Thomas Cook. It hopes to launch later this month.

The news of the new online tour operation comes as reports suggest the relaunch of the Thomas Cook brand as an online travel agency owned by Chinese conglomerate Fosun is ‘imminent’.

Greece calls on UK to review ‘unfair’ quarantine decision
Minister stresses low national infection rate after seven islands removed from exemption list

Greece’s tourism minister has said the UK government should review its decision to quarantine people travelling from seven of the country’s most popular islands, labelling the move “unfortunate and unfair”.

Harry Theoharis said infection levels in Greece remained below the UK’s threshold for taking countries off its exemption list.

UK government's Greek island quarantine list prompts renewed calls for testing
Regional approach to quarantine is a ‘step in the right direction’ but holiday firms say traveller testing for Covid-19 is vital too

Calls for traveller testing at airports have intensified in the wake of the UK government’s decision to impose quarantine measures on seven Greek islands.

The regional approach is a departure from blanket country bans imposed by the government this summer but holiday companies that serve the affected islands have questioned the rationale behind the list and say the current 14-day quarantine requirement is unsustainable.

Thousands need aid after fire destroys Europe’s largest refugee camp
Greek minister calls situation on Lesbos an ‘unprecedented humanitarian crisis’

Thousands of people urgently require emergency shelter and aid after a fire destroyed Europe’s largest refugee camp, on the Greek island of Lesbos.

As the Greek government declared a state of emergency and a delegation of officials rushed to the north-eastern Aegean island, the sheer scale of devastation wrought by the overnight blaze became increasingly evident.

In the mangled wreckage of gutted facilities, incinerated tents and blackened containers, Moria was no more. The camp whose overcrowded and unsanitary conditions had spawned global outrage since its inception in 2015 had been erased.
