I thought these shakes may have followed a fault line, because the co-ords were different. So I have plotted them out. Of the ones recorded above, four are in a straight line.

Thanks, Rog  :btu: Probably doesn't make any sense but I prefer the ones at sea.

Latest summary from emsc:

http://www.emsc-csem.org/Earthquake/

Latest from ekathimerini:

Quote
The Ionian island of Cephalonia was rattled by a tremor measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale on Sunday at 3.55 p.m., according to the Athens Geodynamic Institute. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center initially said the quake measured 5.9 Richter but later revised the magnitude to 6.

The epicenter of the quake was some 11 kilometers from the island's main town of Argostoli and 2 kilometers to the north of the town of Lixouri.

The tremor was felt strongly in Patra and Athens, and as far away as Karditsa and Larissa in central Greece.

No reports of injuries were made initially, though local authorities suggested that there has been some damage to buildings, mostly broken windows, and to Cephalonia's road network. The local soccer ground has reportedly suffered a deep rift.

Strong aftershocks up to 4.4 Richter have also been recorded.

Prime Minister Antonis Samaras dispatched Interior Minister Yiannis Michelakis to the island to conduct an inspection.

Colleywobble: still too early to tell but don't *think* there was much damage / injury. Certainly an experience. Hopefully that's our 'big one' for a long while.

That was right underneath us. No physical damage to the house, but major damage to glasses, crockery etc.

Place is like a tip, floating in wine.

Not sure that officially counts as serious damage, John - but I would be crying into my wine.

I have plotted a few more aftershocks. Not sure how accurate the locations are, but they do seem to be over a wide area.

Much appreciated, Rog. Interesting to see the epicentres on a map, must take a bit of time co-ordinating all that.

Excerpt from the latest update on ekathimerini:

Quote

No casualties have been reported from a strong earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter that rocked the Ionian island of Cephalonia on Sunday, though the tremor damaged parts of the road network and a number of older buildings, local authorities have said.

Rockfalls have closed down some of the island's roads and a number of old buildings in the village of Pallikis, including a retirement home, suffered damage. The residents of the retirement home have been evacuated while the extent of the damage is assessed.

The epicenter of the quake was some 11 kilometers from the island's main town of Argostoli and 2 kilometers north of the town of Lixouri. In both towns there were reports of broken windows at stores and residences.

The local soccer ground has reportedly also suffered a deep rift, as have parts of the road network.

Interior Minister Yiannis Michelakis flew to the island by helicopter to inspect the impact of the quake.

...the island's deputy mayor, Evangelos Kekatos... said that all municipal services have been mobilized to inspect the island and record any damage.

Emergency crews have also been dispatched by the Public Power Corporation to restore damages suffered by parts of the electricity network that caused blackouts.

Authorities declared a state of emergency and ordered that all schools remain closed on Monday.

Some videos on youtube. Doesn't look to be much damage, thankfully. Tempting to go for a drive to see if there's any damage to be seen but probably not wise until the quakes are pretty much over.

Well, as you know, we're pretty accustomed to 'quakes here, most of which pass unnoticed. In perspective, the Katelios quake was a nice little talking point for tourists but I doubt many would've welcomed the first quake today. The power of the wobble was one thing, the duration another. I haven't felt all the aftershocks: I think the concern is... what might be coming? Hopefully, the first was 'the big one'.

If so, the lack of damage and injury (reported so far) is quite re-assuring.

Interesting site given below which details almost a blow-by-blow account of the day so far. Looks like Argostoli Hospital has suffered some roof damage and patients moved to nearby wooden buildings...
