All drivers, in Greece, above 74 urged to update their license
Drivers will need to repeat the procedure every three years

A new highway code that was introduced last week by Greek Minister of Transport Christos Spirtzis dictates that anyone above the age of 74 will have to renew their driver’s license.

They will be required to sit for an exam once every three years according to the new law, while those who are above the age of 80 will need to prove their driving skills once every two years.

Those required to sit the examination will be tested on road signs, and the driving test will only be focused on the basics.

Meanwhile foreigners are not exempt. Anyone above 74 years of age will be required to sit for the test.

"the driving test will only be focused on the basics". Can the driving test get any more basic than nine minutes?  Could be 'interesting' for older Brits as some techniques are definitely different in Greece.

Surely they do not intend to test every visitor?

Probably hadn't thought of tourists, not that we got that many 74 or over hiring cars but it happens. Be interesting to see if they are banned from hiring a car or if their current national licence is deemed OK.

Point in question might be any Brits 74+ who live permanently in Greece but still drive on a UK licence. Presumably they'll need to get a Greek licence

As Tony says, maybe it will all change come next March 29th. Since I am 74 on Saturday, this subject is of interest to me! However, if it becomes law and I am stopped by police, I will suddenly become a visitor.

Roger doesn't look a day over 50, let alone 60, so I don't think the cops will ever consider it!!

:hmm: Might not work if you've (already) got a Greek licence! Though I doubt Roger would have any problem passing the (rural) Greek driving test.

1. Drive in middle of road (especially on blind bends)
2. At a junction wait and see if anything is coming. If not, wait until there is and then pull out in front of it.
