Navagio Beach on Zakynthos Unlikely to Open for Summer
Zakynthos Port Authority is unlikely to give the green light for the opening of the world-famous Navagio (Shipwreck) Beach this summer after the landslide of September 2018.
It is unknown whether one of the five most popular beaches in the world will receive the hundreds of thousands of tourists that visit every year. September’s landslide has destroyed part of the landscape and makes accessibility difficult.
Zakynthos municipal authorities are working hard to remove the fallen rocks and debris.
So far, the Zakynthos Port Authority is prohibiting access by any kind of boat to Shipwreck Beach as the danger of further landslides remains.

That will be a blow to the trip boats, that carry thousands of visitors to the bay. They must have made a fortune over the years.
A lot of erosion of the Katelios cliffs has taken place during the winter and I am concerned about rockfalls. I might make a warning sign!

New Safety Measures Announced for Iconic Navagio Beach on Zakynthos
Seven months after a major landslide at the iconic Navagio (Shipwreck) beach on the island of Zakynthos, a plan to manage visitor safety is ready, a geology specialist told Athens-Macedonian News Agency radio “Praktoreio” on Thursday.

OMG! They've only gone and dunnit! It's the Kαπετάνιος Σπύρος (Captain Spyros), an old freighter that brought grapes from the vineyards of Crete to the wineries and distilleries of Patras - and between Kefalonia and the Gulf of Patras unloaded on to a smaller ship counterfeit cigarettes from Turkey to be taken through the Corinth Canal to the bars and nightclubs of Athens. Kef coast guard confiscated the boat back in 1991 and it's been waiting opposite Argostoli to be claimed by its owners since then. Surprisingly, no-one has ever come forward to claim ownership (or involvement) and ever since the boat has been rusting in peace opposite the Drapano cemetery.
According to the official version, the boat broke free of its moorings during this year's unusually harsh winter storms and has been drifting, ghost-ship like, off the Kef coast until it washed up in the early hours of this morning on Mounda Beach. Bound to be a big hit with the tourists, and quite fortunate timing as the first tourists arrive by easyJet and cruise boat today.

Zakynthos mayor under pressure to reopen iconic beach ahead of tourist season
Local businesspeople on Zakynthos are putting pressure on mayor Pavlos Kolokotsas to allow full access to the famous Navagio (shipwreck) beach on the island’s northwestern coast, where a landslide in September last year injured one tourist.

I thought they had reopened it with no go areas, basically under the cliffs the main beach being accessible

Yep, that's the impression I had, Ian. I'm now thinking that was just Plan A.
I think local businesspeople on Zakynthos got a bit worried about the pulling power of Kαπετάνιος Σπύρος

I see I can get an umbrella, two beds and towels and a bottle of Prosecco at Aperanto Galazio (Infinite Blue) Cuisine Bar on Mykonos for a mere €110 per day. Just booked a fortnight!

Zakynthos Authorities Allow Access to Famed Navagio Beach
Zakynthos authorities have gone ahead and given the green light to access via boat the world famous Navagio Beach, which had been cordoned off earlier this year after a rockfall injured several visitors.
The Zakynthos port authority together with municipal and regional officials, and tourist boat professionals met last month to discuss the terms of boat approach, mooring and swimming in the area, which is now allowed in specially marked areas (40 meters from the coast) and under certain conditions.
In relevant news, it should be noted that the Ionian island authorities also tabled a plan last month for the creation of a theme park in the wider Navagio area, to include a series of tourist infrastructure projects set to cater to the thousands of visitors who flock to the site each year.
Among others the plan foresees central area theme park, restaurant and cafe, 120-seat parking space for cars, buses and special needs vehicles, rest rooms, shops, info and ticket centers, medical facilities, conference center, and shaded rest areas.
Two key elements of the Navagio theme park as laid out in the plan will be a u-shaped skywalk offering access from above and an underground museum showcased by natural light.
