Fosun paid £91.8 million for the stake and will seek to double its holding in Thomas Cook to 10%.

According to a report on chinadaily a Greek island has been sold freehold to a Chinese construction magnate. The island isn't named and, unless things have changed recently (quite possible), it hasn't previously been possible to buy islands freehold (not sure what the deal was with the Emir of Qatar).

Heard that some locals, together with the Greek Equine Protection Association, have rescued two (allegedly) abused horses that the owner had secreted away in the Skala area to avoid detection. Owner banned from acquiring any more animals.

Greece’s top administrative court blocked the sale process of a luxury Athens seaside resort to an Arab-Turkish fund. According to the State Council judges’ decision, the sale of the prime Astir Palace hotel complex and the development of the seaside site breached planning rules and would harm the natural, cultural and urban environment.

Two conservative German lawmakers proposed a 500 euro incentive to German holidaymakers to visit Greece on the condition that they should bring back equal hotel and restaurant receipts.

According to the German MPs, German holidaymakers on their return from Greece would be reimbursed 500 euros by the German state on presentation of restaurant and hotel bills — on condition that the hotel and restaurant in question have paid their taxes. This way, they claim, the German tourists will help Greece fight tax evasion.

Really pleased for the horses. Just hope no Brits were involved or we'll never hear the end of their heroics.

I think most just get on with it, although we could be on the same wavelength.

We all know that, when it comes to security holes, Java is the big "swiss cheese".

If you run Java on your computer you are increasing your attack surface, as malicious hackers will often exploit vulnerabilities in Oracle's software to infect your computer.

So it's no surprise that many people don't like to run Java on their computers, if they can at all help it.

Well, now those kind fellows at Oracle have come up with another reason why Mac users may not want to install Java on their Mac.

Oracle extends its adware bundling to include Java for Macs

Summary: For years, Oracle has tormented Windows users by bundling adware with its Java installer for Windows PCs. Now Oracle has begun including the same adware as part of a default installation of Java for the Mac, using the same deceptive techniques.

As with its Windows counterpart, the Ask search page returns low-quality results that are heavily loaded with ads, most of which are not clearly distinguished from organic search listings.

In my testing, I found it relatively easy to uninstall the Ask Search extension from both Chrome and Safari, although an unsophisticated user might be intimidated by the process. In both cases, however, the home page remained set to an Ask search page and had to be manually changed.

Looks like that page has been extended from a simple click-and-check to include more tests and, at the moment, looks like it could be under heavy use. When I made the original post it gave my browser the all clear, now it's saying it might be incompatible with their tests.

For anyone interested, there's a fairly readable article on the BBC: Millions at risk from 'Freak' encryption bug
