Ithaka coast guard yesterday had to rescue the CLORIDA II, with two foreign nationals on board, from shallows roughly off Stavros. No injuries or pollution but yacht refused permission to sail until classified safe.

After seventeen years of legal battles, famous Greek shipowner Panagiotis Laimos is facing a sentence of 15 years in prison for the “Albion 2” shipwreck. Seventeen years ago, the tragic event led to the death of 25 people. Now, the 84-year-old shipowner has been found unanimously guilty by the Piraeus Three-Member Felony Court of Appeals for disruption of water transport safety.

Global super-rich on the march as personal fortunes swell
Number of high net-worth individuals rose by 1.76 million to 13.7 million around the world, with 62,000 more in Britain alone

In Britain, more than 62,000 people became HNWIs last year, bringing their numbers to a record high of 527,000 – or one in every 121 of the population.

George King, RBC's head of portfolio strategy, who advises the super-wealthy on where to invest their money, said there are now so many super-rich people that it is hard to distinguish "millionaires next door" from the general population. "Most of them are quite normal," he said, adding that "90% plus are people next door, they're not oligarchs, they don't look any different. They're not ostentatious."

Frances O'Grady, general secretary of the TUC, said the report highlighted concerns that a "super-rich clique appear to be hogging the proceeds of growth for themselves" while real wages for ordinary workers are falling or are under pressure.

Ireland and the United Arab Emirates shared the distinction of creating new wealth at the fastest rate, with the number of HNWIs increasing by almost a quarter in both countries.

Fully electronic trademark registration system to be deployed

The trademark registration system will be fully digitised in one or two months, cutting down on red tape and reducing businesses' costs, Deputy Development and Competitiveness Minister Gerasimos Giakoumatos said at the Conference on Trade Marks and Measures Against Counterfeiting, held at Zappeio Mansion, as part of the Greek EU presidency.

Greece must obtain a single modern self-managed trademark office not only to the benefit of Greek brands, but also for the world community, the president of the Office for the Harmonisation of the Internal Market (OHIM) Antonio Campinos noted.

How to Update Windows XP After End of Support

For info only: at own risk

Super find Maik !!

I've been experimenting with this new info and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Perfect

If anyone else is put off by the negative comments re. "lack of Office support", then that's easily resolved by creating a second .reg file to turn OFF the change by setting DWord to 0

... But it's all a bit complicated for the rest of us who don't feel so confident messing with the registry

XP Update Extender allows you to receive updates for Windows XP until 2019. Therefore all it does is to set a registry key pretending to be a version of XP Embedded called “POSReady“. It does not modify any system files.

Pretending to be running this particular version of Windows, you will receive updates made for exactly this version of Windows XP.

Those updates may not have been properly tested for your version of Windows XP and might harm your system. Use at your own risk!

Microsoft can prevent this “hack” any time.

As it says: "Use at your own risk!"

Guess it's true, then: Kef has transferred from the Ionian to the Aegean!

PS: Good find, Maarm (well, sort of...)

Nice to see the Albanian Government cracking down on the canabis industry. It will make a big difference to the drug smuggling over the nearby Greek border. Lazarat is very close to where we stayed overnight in May. Now I know why there were so many new Mercs and BMs!
