A change from Brexit and coronavirus, albeit not a pleasant change:

Bolton stabbing: Girl, seven, killed by stranger in park

A seven-year-old girl has died after being stabbed by a stranger in a park.

The girl suffered serious injuries in the attack at Queen's Park in Bolton at about 14:30 GMT, Greater Manchester Police said.

A force spokesman said despite the "best efforts of her family and medical responders, she died a short while later".

A 30-year-old woman, who was not known to the family, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.

Assistant Chief Constable Russ Jackson said officers were "working to understand the motive for this completely random and brutal attack".

Package holiday refund rules to be suspended

As the travel industry implodes because of the coronavirus crisis, rules on refunds for cancelled holidays are to be suspended.

At present package holidaymakers whose trips are cancelled are entitled to all their money back within two weeks of the trip being called off.

But the Package Travel Regulations 2018 were never designed for a total shutdown of international tourism.

An estimated two million overseas package holidays were due to depart in the first 30 days of the government’s warning against non-essential travel, running from 17 March to 16 April 2020. They have all been cancelled – representing around £1bn that the law insists should be paid back to consumers.

Many hard-pressed holidaymakers, facing uncertainty about their own incomes, are understandably anxious to get the cash that is due to them.

But The Independent understands that the transport secretary, Grant Shapps, will agree to protect Britain’s beleaguered travel industry.

For travel firms earning no revenue, having to hand back payments for cancelled holidays immediately could force them out of business.

Drones will monitor citizens to ensure compliance to lockdown laws

Drones and helicopters will monitor citizens to ensure they are complying to the new lockdown rules announced in Greece by the Prime Minister on Sunday.

The Orwellian–like move was announced on Sunday in the joint press conference by State and Digital Governance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Citizen Protection Deputy Minister Lefteris Economou, Deputy Health Minister Vassilis Kontozamanis and Deputy Interior Minister Theodoros Livanios.

Citizen Protection Deputy Minister Lefteris Economou said that helicopters and drones would be used in Athens and Thessaloniki to ensure that regulations are observed.

For weeks, the message has been;
This virus targets the elderly and the sick. Every reported death has the postscript "elderly" and/or "with underlying health conditions"
The Experts saying "the vast majority of people will only experience mild symptoms" "some won't even know they've had it"
The very same Experts stating "we're aiming for herd immunity among the young and healthy to reduce the risk to the vulnerable"
Home, bed and Paracetamol is all the young, fit, and healthy will require. Only the old, vulnerable, and sick will need need hospitalisation.

The vulnerable are all isolated, and quaking, behind locked front doors - for the most part they're of an age where they don't question edicts
In which case exactly how does the outdoor exodus of the young, fit, and healthy last weekend contradict the previous "advice"?

(yes. I have too much time on my hands. ;-)  )

We returned from Tenerife last week, on a rescue flight (chaotic!) on our last two days the place was on lockdown, people there behaved themselves and acted sensibly, yesterday (Sunday) here was lunacy, crowds of people arrived at the seaside, there were literally hundreds of people cheek to jowl walking along the promenade! I think Boris is between a rock and a hardplace, because of selfish idiots he is going to have to do a complete lockdown, the shops in Tenerife gave you a hand sanitiser  to use, then gloves, only two at a time enter the shops, here in the uk the selfish panic buyers are fighting to grab toilet rolls, it is a bloody joke!
rant over :)
