Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.

NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".

A 75 y-o foreign male on board the Dutch-flagged yacht THETIS in Agia Efimia bay was transferred by boat to Sami yesterday afternoon as he needed medical first aid. He was later transferred from Sami Medical Centre to Argostoli hospital for further medical assessment.

Allegedly, paper deposited in the Municipality of Argostoli yellow-topped blue bulk bins, similar to the one above, isn't being recycled, only the collected cardboard is. Now the Municipality plan to collect, in specially designed separate bins, printed paper for recycling. The scheme is aimed at large scale producers of printed paper, such as schools and council offices, but the facility will also be made available to the public although details haven't been made available yet. The bulk bins are designed to have openings that will not allow items other than paper to be deposited, the specially designed collection vehicle will have the ability to weigh and record the amount in each bin. Once collected the paper will be sent to Patras for processing.

Odisha: Over 280 killed and 900 injured in India's most deadly train crash in decades
Over 280 people have been killed after two trains derailed in India on Friday, making it the most deadly rail crash in the country for decades.
There are fears the death toll is likely to rise further.
Local officials said some 900 people were injured in the crash and taken to nearby hospitals where scores of volunteers arrived to donate blood.

Utah primary schools ban Bible for 'vulgarity and violence'
A school district in the US state of Utah has removed the Bible from elementary and middle schools for containing "vulgarity and violence".
The move follows a complaint from a parent that the King James Bible has material unsuitable for children.
Utah's Republican government passed a law in 2022 banning "pornographic or indecent" books from schools.

Most Greeks have less than 1,000 euros in the bank
Almost three out of four Greeks (72.5%) have bank deposits of no more than 1,000 euros.
The savings of that vast majority of depositors amount to €2.69 billion, corresponding to 1.4% of total deposits.
On the other hand, 0.7% of households and businesses have deposits of more than €100,000 each, which add up to €80.6 billion and correspond to 42% of total savings.

As a Greek fisherman once told us, "Greece is a poor country with rich people". Assisted by the EU, the Greek government has been trying to reverse that. Absolutely no doubt poverty exists in Greece but there are still Greeks who prefer to stash their cash under the mattress rather than trust a bank.

Greek police find 3.2 million euros of cocaine in banana containers
Police in northern Greece have seized dozens of packages of cocaine stashed in containers laden with bananas that had been shipped from Latin America, they said on Saturday.
Police seized two suspect containers at the port of Piraeus and, after taking them to the port of Thessaloniki, found 100 "bricks" of concealed cocaine, weighing 161 kilos.
The drugs, which would have been distributed across Greece and other European countries, are estimated to be worth about 3.2 million euros, police said.
