Don't mention the.... football
« on: Saturday, 14 June, 2014 @ 23:40:12 »
Surprised it's not here already but the bad news is that the score was Colombia 3 - 0 Greece.  And not a very inspiring performance from Greece IMHO.  Mind you I'd better not say too much ahead of a certain game in Manaus tonight!  :hmm:

But the Spain v Holland game last night was one to remember for many a year.  :btu:

Last night Japan 0 - 0 Greece.  At least they got a point which is more than some other teams have.  On too late to watch it - even in UK.  Must be a pain in Greece finishing at 0245.  The Greek captain was sent of for a 2nd yellow card so they did well to hold the draw, though the match report is uninspiring.  They have a chance of going through if they beat Ivory Coast.

Well blow me down with a feather. Greece beat The Ivory Coast 2-1 and go through to the last 16. Guess I'll support Greece for a while as England are flying home.

Looks like it was a dodgy penalty in extra time that did it.  But anyway well done and a much better performance that England overall.  Perhaps our shops should stock Greek flags etc for next time!!

Greece v Costa Rica on Sunday at 2100 BST.  Should be interesting!

Watch this space.

So Greece lose in the shoot-out.  Costa Rica have a great keeper - saved them the match in extra time and certainly did at the very end.

Great play by Greece in the second half and particularly in extra time.  So close!!!

Triffic game.   :btu: :btu: :btu:

Greece’s surprising request after turning down World Cup bonus

Quote
Whether it be their surprising Euro 2004 success a decade ago or their dramatic qualification from this year’s World Cup group stages, Greece tend to be a team of feelgood moments.

Their latest warming turn of events comes courtesy of a Greek report which suggests the squad have politely turned down a bonus from their Prime Minister, Antonis Samaras, for reaching the knockout phase for the first time in the famous tournament’s history.

Instead, they requested that the cash be used to build a brand-spanking new training centre for the national side so that they can continue to provide better results for their country.
