You used to be able to see a couple on a track just outside Sigri on Lesvos but I think theyve all been moved to a swish modern museum.  Equally Sigri was tiny village backwater in the eighties when we visited but has come up in the world. An ancient kafenion had a cracking 1950's jukebox - wonder what happened to it?!

We stayed two weeks in Sigri early-mid nineties. Bit of a one horse town then - but we never saw the horse. Allegedly a ferry from somewhere came in near the old fortress, but we never saw it (the ferry - the fortress never moved the whole time we were there). Plenty of hungry terrapins in the muddy 'pond' nearby, wearing flip flops wasn't advisable. Made a special journey to the petrified 'forest'... more trees in my back garden.

But the food was good, the wine was cheap, the sun shone...
