WEDNESDAY

The Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) is scheduled to hold a 24-hour strike, affecting ferry services across Greece.

I thought PNO were sailors, not dockers, but maybe both will be on strike Wednesday.

OTE strike action to affect most services

The clash between the management of telecommunications giant OTE and its employees has reached boiling point: After the company decided not to refill eight security positions following dismissals, the workers’ union called a strike for all working days from December 21 to January 12.

The industrial action concerns the periods from December 21 to 24, December 27 to 31, January 2 to 5 and January 7 to 12. OTE officials say this may create problems in the company’s services, given that its network forms the basis not only for communication through landline and mobile telephony, but also a series of other services that are vital to citizens, such as credit card terminals, property security alarms etc.

Doctors walk out on Tuesday requesting 'hazardous job' pay

The union of public hospital workers (POEDIN) has announced a five-hour work stoppage on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. demanding “self-evident” inclusion of their jobs in the list of hazardous occupations.

According to POEDIN, hospitals have serious shortages of medical staff, who are waging a daily battle to cope with demand.

“They are prepared to wear protective uniforms against any kind of virus even though they are paid 700 euros per month, without their occupation being included in the list of hazardous ones,” the union said.

As happens (in Greece), 18 Feb turned into a general strike with public and private sector employees involved, including construction workers, lawyers, accountants, sailors and port employees according to the sofiaglobe.com.

Not clear if local ferries will be affected.

Anyone planning to travel by ferry tomorrow might want to check with the ferry agent as I've heard PNO will be on 24 hour strike. Not sure if this will affect Kef ferries. See amna.gr
