Footage from a church mid-explosion brings hope to Beirutis
St Dimitrios Greek Orthodox Church in Achrafieh is less than a kilometre away from where the Beirut explosion took place.
Father Youil Nassif rushed to the church to check for damage, finding the nave completely ruined. But the sacred altar space, protected by the 'iconostasis' (wall of icons), was almost unscathed - including an oil lamp that had remained lit throughout the blast.

Sudden storm floods Evia; elderly couple, baby found dead
An 86-year-old man and his wife, 85, as well as an 8-month-old baby, have been found dead in their flooded homes on the island of Evia, in central Greece, after a storm hit the island overnight, authorities say.
The couple and the baby were found in separate homes in the village of Politika, north of the city of Halkida, about 100 kilometers from Athens.

Notorious Party Island Mykonos Seen Center of Greece's COVID-19 Surge
Unable or unwilling to stop wild partying on Mykonos, the island known as a kind of hedonist heaven, Greece's New Democracy government – lauded for a lockdown holding down the number of COVID-19 cases – is seeing them spike again.
The British newspaper The Sun noted that the jumping cases in Greece, which had one of the world's best records, is ironically making the United Kingdom – among the hardest-hit in the world – reconsider whether it's safe for tourists to visit.
Police said they will step up an alleged crackdown especially after cases are rising on other islands as well, places that were desperate for tourists with the summer season already heading toward a wind down after disappointing numbers of arrivals.
The Ionian isles of Corfu, Lefkada, Zakynthos and Kefalonia – where the British, especially hooligans known for violence, are the main tourist market, only recently allowed to enter after Greece lifted a ban on them.

Liverpool close to £11.75m deal for Olympiacos left-back Tsimikas
Kostas Tsimikas is set to become Liverpool’s first signing of the summer, with the Olympiacos defender set for a £11.75 million ($15m) move to Anfield from the Greek outfit, Goal can confirm.
The 24-year-old is set to arrive at the Premier League champions as an back-up for starting left-back Andy Robertson.

I had hoped the snakes (European Cat snake) might get some peace this year, after celebrations have been scaled down. They rarely survive the ordeal of being captured and handled.
