Road tax 2017

Changes in 2017 road taxes “up in the air”

It is doubtful whether either the road tax reductions or the changes in heating allowance proposed by former alternate  finance minister Tryfon Alexiadis will come into effect.

The finance ministry is currently reviewing whether to apply the changes planned for road taxes in 2017 and whether to provide subsidies for heating oil.

According to finance ministry sources, it is unlikely that the road tax changes proposed by Tryfon Alexiadis will be put into effect, due to time constraints. The former alternate finance minister had proposed a reduction in road taxes for old cars and an increase for those that were new, expensive and powerful vehicles with displacement over 2,000 cubic centimeters. A source from the ministry told newmoney.gr: “it remains to be seen whether there will be any changes.”

The TAXISNET will open the following days and the owners over six million cars will see ... sad the road tax 2017 . For most, namely those who have car from 2006 to 2010 and 1,900 cubic basically there will be no any changes to traffic charges and everything indicates that they will stay the same.

cubism   traffic fees
301-785   55
786-1.071   120
1.072-1.357   135
1.358-1.548   255
1.549-1.738   280
1.739-1.928   320

For those who have a car but more than 1,928 cc will be a significant increase in road tax for 2017 will increase at least 10% and may reach 15%.

New car owners after 2010 already pay based pollutants will be found to pay more fees as they counted the value.

In case of emissions, unchanged fees for cars will remain that emit less than 160 mg, and will increase the rates for those emitting more than 160 mg. There is also a suggestion to impose road tax for cars with emissions of 80 to 90 mg, which previously excluded.

Reductions will be for those with a car from 2000 to 2005 and who will continue to pay based on displacement, while those have car before 2000 will see a reduction in road tax to 40%.

Those who bought a car after 2010 which has dirt under 90 grams will pay for the first time this year after the limit will fall from 90 grams to 80.

Excuse Google translation!

Sounds like it's still up in the air, no official announcement as yet though sounding more likely it will stay much the same as last year. Here's what's intended:

Everyone will have to pay road tax

Greece’s road tax system is set for big changes with Alternate Finance Minister Tryfon Alexiadis’s plan to force all vehicle owners to pay a levy, even if they had hitherto been exempt.

Sources say that two ministerial decisions will be issued early next week regarding road tax and the heating oil benefit. In terms of road tax, which is payable by the end of the year, the plan will provide for the inclusion among paying drivers of those who acquired their vehicles after 2010. Therefore, some 100,000 vehicle owners will have to pay road tax for the first time, meaning all car and motorcycle owners will now be burdened with the levy.

As a Finance Ministry official explains, the owners of vehicles of 1,400 to 1,600 cc who currently pay no road tax because their vehicles emit lower levels of pollutants will now have to start paying, while the ministry intends to reduce medium-sized vehicles’ tax as well as that of older vehicles that currently pay a high tax.

Two of the pledges former alternate minister of finance Tryfon Alexiadis had made before the government reshuffle, concerning changes to road tax and the heating oil benefit, appear to have been shelved, although it is possible the latter will go ahead.

According to a top ministry official it is possible that road tax will remain the same as last year for vehicle owners as there is no time left for interventions (road tax is payable until the end of the year). Alexiadis had proposed tax reductions for owners of older and smaller vehicles and hikes for owners of newer and larger vehicles.

Seems there's still no official announcement though Kathimerini reckon it will be the same as 2016, link to (likely) tariff below. In Greek but you should be able to figure it out: depends on when car was first registered in Greece and cubic capacity / CO2 emmissions.

Taxisnet website should be open soon, hopefully the Greek road tax 'how to' should still apply.
