Greek authorities have released a statement saying two Turkish brothers were arrested on the Greek island of Chios for illegally crossing the border from nearby Turkey on a jet ski on Tuesday and had allegedly intended to rob banks on the island.

The statement also said the two men’s mobile phones showed “indications” of the alleged robbery plans.

The brothers were detained on a Chios beach Tuesday, were they reportedly told coast guards that their jet ski had broken down, forcing them to land on the island of Chios. However Greek authorities found the jet ski was working, which led to a closer investigation.

Both men were charged with illegally entering Greece and for conspiring to commit a crime.

Surprised it's not happened before. Been to several small Greek islands where the (only) bank is on the quayside. Think most banks have beefed up their access and egress now.
