Seven Welsh priests walk Into a bar and get mistaken for a stag party

A group of Roman Catholic priests were refused service at a Welsh pub on Sunday (July 30) after staff mistook them for a stag party in fancy dress.

The clergymen, who were celebrating the ordination of Father Peter McLaren, were told by a bartender that Cardiff’s City Arms pub had a policy not to give alcohol to large groups of men in fancy dress.

After initially thinking that staff were joking, the priests got up to leave, according to a blog post by the Archdiocese of Cardiff.

However, one bartender realised the mistake that had been made and consequently offered the fathers a free round of drinks.

“We’d like to thank The City Arms for being good sports
through all of this and their kind gesture to our seminarians,” said the archdiocese.

An assistant manager from the pub explained that the no-fancy-dress policy had been put in place as they had previously had issues with such clients in the past.

A tweet on The City Arms’ Twitter said that the situation had been resolved: “A slight misunderstanding from us but everyone was happy in
the end.”
