Coronavirus: UK to open up European holidays from 6 July

UK holidaymakers are expected to be allowed to travel to Spain, France and Greece this summer after ministers confirmed people returning from certain countries will not have to quarantine.

The rules will be relaxed on 6 July after a review of health measures.

The full list of travel corridors with the UK will be published next week.

UK travellers will still have to hand over the address they plan to stay at on their return from abroad, no matter which country they are coming back from. And they will also be legally required to wear face coverings on planes and ferries.

'We've bought the wrong satellites': UK tech gamble baffles experts

The UK government’s plan to invest hundreds of millions of pounds in a satellite broadband company has been described as “nonsensical” by experts, who say the company doesn’t even make the right type of satellite the country needs after Brexit.

Most cars are over 15 years old

Greece has turned into Europe’s junkyard for used vehicles, as the local market has been dominated by imports of used cars and vans which other countries tend to push abroad due to their high emission rates.

A 20-bed quarantine hotel has been negotiated in Argostoli, a 10-bed hotel on Ithaki.

Government to introduce summer holiday ‘traffic-light’ quarantine system
Travel firms are still furious that clampdown may continue into July

With the start of the main July and August holiday season just four days away, the government has changed tack on easing its “no-holiday” policy.

Relaxation of the UK’s quarantine rules and travel advice will not now come until the week after next, Downing Street signalled, as it announced a new traffic-light system that will open up routes to popular destinations like France and Spain.

The government has moved away from talk of “air bridge” deals with individual countries. Instead, the Joint Biosecurity Centre – which was set up to coordinate the government’s response to the pandemic – is categorising countries with a “traffic light” system.

Each country is rated green, amber or red, depending on the prevalence of coronavirus, the trajectory of disease and the centre’s assessment of the data’s reliability. Quarantine will apply only to nations rated red.

Dozens of countries, particularly in Europe, will expect to be rated green or amber, with quarantine reserved for locations with records similar to, or worse than, the UK.

The government has already signalled that travellers from France, Spain and Greece will be exempt.

All inbound travellers will still be required to complete a passenger locator form in order to enter the UK, so they can be traced if necessary.

The quarantine policy must be reviewed on Monday, 29 June. On Wednesday the transport secretary, Grant Shapps, indicated to MPs that a list of countries from which travellers may avoid quarantine would be published on that day.

It was understood that the Foreign Office would lift its blanket no-go advice at the same time.

But the government is now thought likely to delay an announcement until Wednesday, 1 July, with the eased restrictions taking effect from the following week.

I remember when News was what had just happened.
Be jolly difficult to say "well, that's news to me" in this day and age.

 Lots of talk  about air-bridges in most media, first I've read about a 'traffic-light' quarantine system.

I think.

I've read so much 'news' I sometimes feel confused.

Key dates still 01 July for an official announcement and 06 July for start of traffic-light system.

AFAIK.

Up to three weeks before Greece happy to open air bridge to UK, Greek tourism minister says

Greek tourism minister Haris Theoharis indicated it could be up to three weeks before his country is happy to open up an air bridge to the UK.

He told BBC Breakfast: "We're currently consulting with our health experts, but I think given the fact that the UK is in the right direction, it's a matter of a few days or a few weeks to ensure that all restrictions are lifted.

Greek Brothels Suffer from COVID-19 Crisis

Businesses across Greece have been slowly reopening, scrambling to make up for lost work after a shutdown of more than two months because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The relaunch isn't easy, especially for those in marginalized professions, such as sex workers, who say they are among the hardest hit.

Under a new set of government health and safety regulations, brothels must now implement new protective measures to prevent coronavirus infections.

They require sex workers to wear masks, keep their heads a distance from customers and take on appointments of no more than 15 minutes, all measures the industry has agreed to.

However, orders to register clients’ names and contact numbers, as well as to keep them in orderly lines outside brothels, have prostitutes balking, saying the measures strike at the very foundation of their service: anonymity.

Cashless payments, now required, are also proving a problem.

The crisis is much more prevalent in big cities, such as Athens, where most sex workers are already operating illegally. Authorities said they count about 800 brothels, but only a third of them are legally listed.

To qualify for the aid payments, workers must show they are operating legally and have been paying taxes.

Unlike other countries across Europe and beyond, sex workers here have received little, if any, support from local charity groups.
