Fart blamed for fire during surgery; patient seriously burned

A patient’s fart during surgery apparently sparked a fire that caused serious burns to her body, a university hospital in Tokyo said.

The fire occurred at the Tokyo Medical University Hospital in Shinjuku Ward on April 15. The patient in her 30s was undergoing an operation that involved applying a laser to her cervix, the lower part of the uterus.

The laser is believed to have ignited the gas she passed. The blaze burned much of her body, including her waist and legs.

In Greece, Property Is Debt

ATHENS — At law courts throughout Greece, people are lining up to file papers renouncing their inheritance. Not necessarily because some feckless uncle left them with a pile of debt at the end of his revels; they are turning their backs on what used to be a pillar of Greece’s economy and society: real estate. Growing personal debt, declining incomes and ever higher taxes as Greece’s depression grinds on have turned property and the dream of easy money into dread of a catastrophic burden.

Birmingham Father Facing Extradition To Greece

A Birmingham father's in court later to find out whether he'll be extradited to Greece over a crash that happened there 13 years ago.

Paul Wright was 21 when he says he was a passenger in a car that hit a parked scooter in Malia in 2003.

Mr Wright says he later gave a witness statement to police about the crash in which no-one was injured, and thought the matter had been dealt with.

The now 34-year-old added he didn't know a summons had been issued for him and a trial held three years later during which he was convicted in his absence and is "petrified".

The father-of-two, whose wife is expecting a third child in February, said he now feels he is being pressured to pay more than € 4,000 to have the European Arrest Warrant withdrawn or face months in jail.

Looks like Ionian Group (https://www.ioniangroup.com/en/routes/) have stopped running the Sami-Patras ferry service w.e.f. today. Maybe it will run over the Christmas / New Year period.

Sales of tablet computers fell by more than 6m over the past year as the market contracted 14.7%, according to a report.

At a time when consumers are questioning whether they really need both a computer and a tablet or either along with a smartphone, the only part of the market to grow was the sub-$200 offerings.
