Motorway lessons for learner drivers confirmed for 2018
Learner drivers in England, Wales and Scotland will be allowed to have lessons on the motorway by next year, the government has announced.
The Department for Transport (DfT) said lessons would be in a dual-control car with an approved driving instructor.

A herd of feral goats living in a beauty spot outside Lynton have sparked hate mail, death threats, even a murder inquiry.
In the Crown Hotel in Lynton, they tell a gruesome tale about the Valley of Rocks. One June night in 1995, a chef, raging drunk, snatched up a meat cleaver and, announcing he was going to kill someone, vanished into the night. Early next morning, on the clifftop path that leads from the north Devon village to the valley, a dog-walker came upon a 300-yard trail of blood. A murder inquiry was launched, the scene was taped off, forensics tents erected and samples sent away for analysis.

Heard the local police will be a little more conspicuous over the Ag. Gerasimos festival period and will be making arrests for infringements, e.g. using a cell phone while driving, etc.

A forest fire raging on Zakynthos since Tuesday evening has burned over 1,000 acres of woodland so far, while moving towards Volimes village and creating problems for the road system.
According to local Imerazante.gr website, the fire started in the Orthonoi forest area. Currently there are 46 firefighters, 21 vehicles and one helicopter operating in the area, as aid from neighboring prefectures has arrived on the island.
More aid is expected today (Wednesday) as winds have pushed the flames to the direction of Volimes village. More firefighting aircraft are expected as certain areas are inaccessible to firefighters.
The flames have burned certain Public Power Corporation and some villages are left without electricity, while the road connecting Volimes and Orthonoi has been closed.

The fire was very conspicuous from Kefalonia last night and there is considerable smoke covering the island today.

Unconfirmed but heard the Ionion Pelagos Lines Agios Gerasimos ferry won't be running on the Kef-Levkas route for a day or two due to its ramp mechanism malfunctioning. Last I heard, it's awaiting repair in Fiskardo.

There are two ferries operating between Fiscardo and Nidri. While one is out of action, the other is likely to be busy. Check times before travel.
