Beach rules seek to dampen party mood

The ministries of Interior, Citizens’ Protection, Labor and Development issued a series of guidelines on Tuesday aimed at making the experience of organized beaches fun, without jeopardizing the health of staff and customers alike.

The new rules allow beach bars to serve beverages like coffee and fresh fruit juice, as well as packaged food at the counter to-go and at customers’ umbrellas. However, they prohibit music and customers from gathering at the bar in a bid to discourage a party atmosphere, while also banning organized events like parties, as well as group sports such as beach volleyball or soccer.

Under the rules, which are designed to prevent the spread of coronavirus, beach clubs can only host 40 customers per 1,000 square meters and must maintain a distance of at least 4 meters between sun umbrellas.

Older people risking broadband price hikes over switching fears, research says

People aged over 55 in the UK are most at risk from broadband price rises because they are unwilling to switch providers, new research suggests.

A study by UK broadband provider Zen Internet indicates that 83% of broadband users aged 55 and over had not switched provider in the last year, if ever.

The research says, as a result, they are leaving themselves at the mercy of end-of-contract price rises.

Google in $5bn lawsuit for tracking in 'private' mode

Google has been sued in the US over claims it illegally invades the privacy of users by tracking people even when they are browsing in "private mode".

The class action wants at least $5bn (£4bn) from Google and owner Alphabet.

Many internet users assume their search history isn't being tracked when they view in private mode, but Google says this isn't the case.

We had an E-Mail from Severn Trent asking us to save on water usage. Can't get my breath after the Winter we have had. Want to get their act together.

Madeleine McCann: German prisoner identified as suspect

A 43-year-old German prisoner who travelled around Portugal in a camper van is now the focus of Scotland Yard's investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

Police believe he was in the area where the three-year-old was last seen in May 2007.

They are appealing for information about the van and the suspect's other vehicle, a Jaguar.

The man transferred it to someone else's name the day after she vanished.

Dominic Cummings's Durham cottage plans investigated

A council is investigating complaints that the property Dominic Cummings used during his lockdown trip did not have the correct planning permission.

The PM's adviser stayed with his family in what he said was a "cottage" on his parents' farm in Durham, in April.

The only planning applications listed on the council's website for the farm are for a roof over a swimming pool in 2001, and the removal of various trees.

Durham County Council and a local MP have received a number of complaints.

Downing Street has declined to comment.

The Cummings' family property, North Lodge, is on the outskirts of Durham.

The City of Durham Labour MP Mary Foy, whose constituency includes the home, said she had also raised questions with Durham County Council.

She said she had received a number of complaints from constituents, and had asked the council whether the property Mr Cummings stayed in had proper planning permission, and whether it was registered for council tax.

She has yet to receive a reply.

I read that Cummings described the 'cottage' as "sort of concrete blocks". That makes it sound rare bare and barren and not the sort of place I'd like to have my sick wife and four year old kiddie stay in. But perhaps they didn't. Perhaps they said bugger the rules, we're the Cummings, we'll forget isolation and quarantine and stay with my parents in their comfy farmhouse. Or maybe Cummings Snr had previously decided the building regs don't apply to them, after all, they're the Cummings and their spawn is best mates with BoJo.

Talking of Dominic Cummings, here's a bit of news you might've missed:
