Rare giant turtles returning to beaches deserted by tourists across world
2020 is set to be ‘really good year’ for leatherbacks, conservationists say

With beaches across the world cleared of people and their waste, one vulnerable sea creature - here for millions of years before humans - appears to be making a comeback.

In recent weeks, rare leatherback turtles have been found nesting in numbers not seen for decades on beaches in Florida and Thailand.

And experts say the resurgence of the vulnerable leatherback is likely closely linked to the desertion of beaches across the world due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Coronavirus: Kangaroos return to empty streets of Australian city centre

A kangaroo has been spotted hopping through the streets of an empty Australian city during the country’s lockdown over the coronavirus pandemic.

Police shared footage of the animal travelling next to a deserted pavement in Adelaide, and running into just one car in the city centre.

The kangaroo then hops over to an empty park in the video posted by South Australia Police.

Wildlife returns to moorland scorched by fire a year ago

Wildlife including short-eared owls, curlews and mountain hares have returned to moorland devastated by fire a year ago, the National Trust said.

Some 700 hectares (1,730 acres) of peatland habitat on Marsden Moor in West Yorkshire were scorched and destroyed in April 2019 by a blaze, started by a disposable barbecue, which took fire crews four days to put out.

Shame because they are fighting fires on Marsden Moor again. Think they may have been started deliberately.
