A Place in the Sun’s Laura Hamilton dejected as couple blast 'ugly' views of property
A PLACE IN THE SUN property expert Laura Hamilton was on the receiving end of some rather scathing criticism on Thursday's episode of the Channel 4 show when a guest wasn't impressed with one home's "ugly" views.

Channel 4 viewers were transported to the picturesque Greek island of Kefalonia on Thursday as A Place in the Sun’s Laura Hamilton tried to find holiday home hunters Fiona and Joe their dream property. With a budget of £250,000 and wiggle room to take it up to £300,000, Laura lined up five stunning properties to show the two and appeared to be ticking boxes time after time during their search. However, when Fiona, Joe and Laura got to the fourth property, Joe’s mood soon changed.

The guy wasn't unpleasant, he just didn't want to live next to an unfinished building site. Must have been a slow news day for the Excess.

Greece fourth among Europeans’ dream destinations

Greece ranks fourth among the most popular destinations for Europeans planning their holidays, according to a report commissioned by the European Union that has not yet been published in its entirety.

The survey shows Greece has climbed one place in the top 10, leapfrogging over Germany among the preferred destinations for Europeans for 2021.

Spain remains the top preference, followed by Italy and France.

Smartphones gaining ground in Greece

Greeks spent over 4.6 billion hours scrolling on their smartphones last year, according to a survey by cellphone data analysis company App Annie.

That amount, which reveals just how much smartphones have become a part of everyday life, is actually estimated to be even bigger as the figures by the US company do not include the data used by the iOS appliances – i.e. iPhones.

Only green areas on ECDC coronavirus map are in Greece

Epirus in northwestern Greece, the Ionian Islands and the Aegean islands are currently the only green areas in Europe, according to a revised map published on Thursday by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) charting the spread of the coronavirus.

In contrast, red is the prevalent color across most of Europe, which indicates 150 confirmed cases of the coronavirus per 100,000 population. At the same time, most of Greece, Finland and Iceland are orange.

The ECDC does not collect data on the United Kingdom.

Jacob Rees-Mogg says fish are ‘happier’ now they’re in British waters

Fish are “better and happier” because they are “now British” after Brexit, Jacob Rees-Mogg has claimed.

The Commons Leader was responding to criticism from the SNP after the party’s Commons leader Tommy Sheppard raised the “Brexit fishing disaster” and asked for a debate on compensation for Scotland’s fishing industry.

“What is happening is that the government is tackling this issue, dealing with it as quickly as possible, and the key thing is we've got our fish back,” Mr Rees-Mogg said.

"They're now British fish and they're better and happier fish for it."

The speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle intervened and said: "Obviously there's no overwhelming evidence for that."

I must admit that the Salata property did have a good view of an unfinished building, but to my knowledge has been unfinished for at least 10 years! I wasn't impressed by her pronunciation of village names.

There were several but I think it was her pronounciation of Metaxata that made me smile  :iroll:

Tourism Minister: Covid-19 Vaccination Certificate Not Required for Greece Entry

Greek Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis ruled out on Thursday the need for a Covid-19 vaccination certificate for travelers wishing to visit Greece this summer.

Theoharis was referring to a proposal made this week to the European Commission by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis calling for an EU-wide vaccination certificate which, he said, would facilitate travel.

EU leaders are expected to discuss the issue during a teleconference on January 21.

China unveils levitating train that can travel at 400mph

China has unveiled a prototype of a new levitating train, which it claims is capable of reaching speeds of up to 400mph.

A shortened version of the High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) high-speed “maglev” train, consisting of just one carriage, was displayed on a limited length of test track in Chengdu on 13 January.

Created by scientists at the Southwest Jiaotong University, the train has no wheels and instead uses magnets which allow it to “hover” just above the track, resulting in frictionless, faster travel.

Magnets are also used to propel the train – opposite poles attract and pull it forward, while the same poles repel and push the train.

The train is designed to travel at 385mph – a speed which would equate to the London-Paris journey taking just over 47 minutes – but scientists think speeds could, at some point, reach 497mph.

It’s also designed to be driverless, capable of self-directing and self-stabilising.

It follows the launch of a driverless train capable of travelling at 215mph in China this time last year.

The service connects Beijing with Zhangjiakou, two of the main host cities of the 2022 Winter Olympics.

It slashed the journey time from three hours to just 47 minutes.
