Watching TV? It could be watchhing you!

Wikileaks has published details of what it says are wide-ranging hacking tools used by the CIA.
The alleged cyber-weapons are said to include malware that targets Windows, Android, iOS, OSX and Linux computers as well as internet routers.
Some of the software is reported to have been developed in-house, but the UK's MI5 agency is said to have helped build a spyware attack for Samsung TVs.
A spokesman for the CIA would not confirm the details.
"We do not comment on the authenticity or content of purported intelligence documents," he said.

'Am I at risk of being hacked?' What you need to know about the 'Vault 7' documents
Should you be worried about agency snooping? Is this WikiLeaks release just the tip of the iceberg? And is someone at the CIA watching too much Doctor Who?

Is there anything I can do to help ensure privacy?

Security researcher Matt Blaze shared his tips on Twitter: “What can you do as a user to defend? Boring stuff. Keep your software up to date. Don’t run unneeded apps.” But, most important of all: “Don’t become a CIA target.”

Er... what would that be??!  Trump might have a different idea.  Don't know about smart TVs but the trend has been to survey everything and archive it until they might need it.

It's the TV stuff that has been highlighted although relatively few people have smart TVs (for now!) but actually it's mobiles that are the big target.  It's like having a CIA agent in your pocket/bag:

The CIA has the ability to break into Android and iPhone handsets, and all kinds of computers The US intelligence agency has been involved in a concerted effort to write various kinds of malware to spy on just about every piece of electronic equipment that people use. That includes iPhones, Androids and computers running Windows, macOS and Linux.
If that software is as powerful as WikiLeaks claims, it could be used to remotely control those devices and switch them on and off. Once that happened, a vast array of data would be made available – including users’ locations, messages they had sent, and potentially everything heard by the microphone or seen by the camera.
