Καλό μήνα!

Traditionally 01 May is 'strike day' in Greece but things are rather different this year. The only strike I'm aware of is on the railways, and that will hardly affect Kef. However, plans to re-organise the waste collection and disposal service has seen unemptied bulk bins around the island and the withdrewal of labour yesterday by binmen. All being well, a return to work has been negotiated w.e.f. today and mountains of rubbish around the island will start to be collected.

Ryanair warns refunds to take up to six months as it axes jobs

Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary has said it will take up to six months to refund passengers for flights cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

He told the BBC the airline was struggling to process a backlog of 25 million refunds with reduced staff.

However, he pledged: "If you want a cash refund, you will receive a cash refund."

Ryanair is set to cut 3,000 jobs - 15% of its workforce - as it restructures to cope with the coronavirus crisis.

It said the 3,000 posts under threat were mainly pilot and cabin crew jobs.

There are likely to be pay cuts of up to 20% for remaining staff, the airline added.

More than 60% of Britons uncomfortable about going out after lockdown ends, survey finds
‘These numbers suggest that it will take some time for parts of the British economy to return to any semblance of normality,’ says pollster

More than 60 per cent of Britons feel uncomfortable about the idea of going out to bars, restaurants, gigs, sporting events or using public transport even if the lockdown is lifted, a survey has revealed.

Many people remain wary about any easing of the curbs on social activities aimed at combatting the spread of the coronavirus, the Ipsos Mori poll showed.

Less than half (49 per cent) of those who are currently employed feel comfortable going back to work. Around a third (35 per cent) of those in work would be nervous about returning if restrictions were eased.

That's something else the Greek holiday industry needs to take into consideration.
