Safety Measures for Navagio Beach to be Updated
The updating of the safety measures for Greece’s famous Navagio beach was discussed Thursday during a meeting at the Greek Tourism Ministry in Athens.
During the meeting it was recommended that local authorities allow visitor access to the beach only through three protection zones as defined in a recent study, while keeping a cap on the number of bathers in order to avoid overcrowding near the surrounding cliffs.

Landslides increase due to climate change and fires
The rockslide Thursday morning at Navagio beach, a popular tourist destination on the Ionian island of Zakynthos, has alarmed authorities. Although there were no injuries, the incident caused by a 5.4-magnitude earthquake highlighted increasing landslides in Greece, linked to more rainfall and climate change.

Woman found dead in her home in Larissa
The body of a 35-year-old woman was found in her apartment in the town of Larissa, central Greece, on Thursday, a local news website reported.
The police was called in by neighbours who complained of an intense stench emanating from the apartment on Papanastasiou Street. Officers who entered the flat found a decomposed body. It was initially believed that the death was brought about by health issues but a forensic examination found that she had been hit on the head with a sharp object.
Police are looking for her partner as the main suspect of her killing.

Komotini man arrested for setting wife ablaze
A man was arrested in Komotini, northern Greece, on Thursday after setting his wife on fire.
Τhe 62-year-old suspect poured petrol on his 55-year-old spouse and set her on fire, but later changed his mind and put out the flames. He then called the police which arrested him.
The wife is currently undergoing treatment at the emergency unit of Komotini Hospital.

Mother who shook infant daughter to death is spared jail
Lily-Mai was born in November 2017 and spent the first two months of her life in Barnet Hospital, before she was discharged into her parents’ care on 25 January 2018.
Staff were concerned over a lack of bonding between mother and baby while Lily-Mai was still in hospital.
Four days after her birth, Saint George refused to visit her daughter on the ward, saying she was having her dinner.
Midwives were shocked to see her standing with her back to the baby when she finally agreed to see her.
Both parents would make sure they had eaten themselves before they fed Lily-Mai.
