“Frontline services are already at breaking point. They must not be sacrificed to make the top 1 per cent even richer,” said the letter signed by the TUC’s Frances O’Grady, Unite’s Sharon Graham and others. “We won’t allow the social fabric of this country to be destroyed.”

Going back twenty years or so one of the car hire firms in Skala, either Etam or Greekstones, I think, advertised snow chains as one of the extras with their cars. It did seem rather bizarre in the blazing sun.

However, the economic crisis, the pandemic, and new consumer habits have all conspired in the decline of kiosks, which are now in danger of becoming history.
Nowadays, of the 9,904 kiosks across Greece in 2010, just 4,985 remain open for business today. Of those, a thousand are officially within the Municipality of Athens, though only four hundred are currently in operation.
The first kiosk in Athens opened in 1911 on Panepistimiou Street, and the idea of the kiosk soon made its way throughout Greece, becoming an institution.

Greek Chess Prodigy Ranked 3rd in the World
Greece is proudly rising in global chessboard as ten-year-old Greek chess champion Evangelia Siskou has won bronze in the World Individual Championship, which concluded on Tuesday in Batumi, Georgia. The Greek chess prodigy now ranks third in the world.
Evangelia Siskou was among the 101 female chess players from thirty-six countries, who participated in the championship in the under-10 girls’ division.
Her victory followed that of fourteen-year-old Nikos Poupalos, who was ranked fourth in the World Individual Championship in Romania just a few hours prior to her taking the bronze.

The official coin effigy of King Charles III has been unveiled by the Royal Mint.
People will start to see the King’s image in their change from around December, as 50p coins depicting Charles gradually enter circulation to meet demand.
In the meantime, the Mint will release a memorial coin range on Monday October 3 at 9am to commemorate the life and legacy of Queen Elizabeth II.
The King’s portrait will first appear on a special £5 Crown and 50p commemorating the Queen.
