Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.9070 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1059 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1025 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9042 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

REVEALED: Greece, EU lost in Babel of train safety deals

The EU and Greece have been trying to put in place modern safety systems and improve Greek railways’ cross-border interoperability to connect with the rest of Europe for more than twenty years.

But a series of delays, grey contracts and zero accountability have exposed both Greece’s insufficient investment planning as well as the EU’s lax monitoring mechanisms and the train tragedy that cost the lives of 57 people has opened Pandora’s Box.

According to a document seen by EURACTIV, for years, the European Commission has been pressuring Greek authorities and raising concerns about two projects key to tackling Greek railway safety, but they were never implemented.

Farmer fined after cow tossed terrified holidaymaker into the air and stamped on him
Barry Fowler, a Devon farmer, pleaded guilty to breaching health and safety rules and fined £555 after walker Steve Adams was badly injured

A farmer has been fined after one of his cows tossed a terrified holidaymaker into the air and stamped on him as he tried to crawl away.

The court heard that Steve Adams, 63, of Coleshill, Warwickshire, was on summer holiday with his wife Jane at the East Devon caravan and motorhome campsite in July 2021 when they decided to go for a walk with their Springer Spaniel dog, which was on a lead.

They were walking along a public footpath through a field where there were cows with calves.

One of the one-ton cows bellowed and charged, leaving Mr Adams badly injured from the ferocious attack. He spent seven days in intensive care.

Silence of the lambs: Anger as former Defra adviser says sheep should be banned from all farms
‘The sheep have got to go’, Ben Goldsmith said

An adviser for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has suggested sheep should be banned by all UK farms.

Ben Goldsmith, brother of former Conservative MP Zac Goldsmith, said sheep are “the principal obstacle standing in the way of meaningful nature recovery in Britain’s national parks and other agriculturally marginal landscapes”.

Mr Goldsmith, 42, claimed that large parts of Britain are largely “trees and scrub”, while the UK is “impoverished of wildflowers, birdsong, wildlife” due to the “forensic grazing by tens of millions of sheep.”

“The sheep have got to go”, he said in a Tweet on Tuesday.

Woman 'nearly dies' after falling into Jubilee Road sinkhole

A woman has been hospitalised after she fell into a 10ft-deep sinkhole in a Watford road and swallowed sewage.

A sinkhole in Jubilee Road... has since been drained but on Sunday night, when it first opened up, it looked “just like a puddle”.

After stepping out of a car after a night out at around 2.30am on Sunday (March 12) Laura Gerber, 23, fell through it and into the sewage.

Municipality of Sami are reminding householders that trees, bushes, etc protruding on to public pavements / roads need to be pruned. Presumably also applies to other municipalities.
