Greece Expects Revenue from Its Tourism Industry to Drop by 80%

Greece says it expects revenue from its tourism industry to drop by 80% on in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Government spokesman Stelios Petsas says third-quarter data showed an estimated 3.9 million tourists visited Greece from July through September, a drop of 88% from 2019.

The pandemic followed a record year for the Greek tourism industry with 34 million visitors and some 18 billion euros ($21 billion) in travel receipts in 2019.

First, and not quite only, cruise boat of 2020 calls into Argostoli tomorrow, passengers can take an organised coach tour of the island or... stay on board? No mixing with the locals as they wander the streets of Argostoli.

Two more cruise boats due in this year, MSC Opera and NCL Norwegian Dawn, both on 06 November.

So far looks like a pretty full cruise season for Argostoli planned for 2021: cruisetimetables.com

PS: Thunderstorms still likely tomorrow

Written exams for Greek citizenship to require B1 language proficiency

Foreign nationals seeking to acquire Greek citizenship will have to sit written exams and display a sufficient knowledge of Greek history, geography, culture and politics, as well as a sufficient command of the language, at a proficiency level of at least B1.

Exams will be carried out twice a year for a fee of 250 euros per person and candidates will need to get a score of 80% or above to pass.

Don't think it's mandatory for people who want to live in Greece but retain e.g. UK nationality - though how Brexit will affect that......

Can't find anything in English-language yet but heard the PLF requirements for visitors to Greece from most countries has been extended to 12 October. Not clear if anything changes for visitors from England.
