British tourists are set for a dynamic return to Greece in 2014 as a report by the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) on the UK market shows, including Greece among the destinations that stand to benefit in the new season. Greece is also among the top destinations for British tourists for 2014 according to Britain’s Expedia.

Britain is the second most important market for Greek tourism both in terms of arrivals (1.9 million per year) and tourism revenues (1.4 billion euros), beaten only by Germany.

Expedia has issued its search and booking data for 2013 and 2014, making special reference to Greece, saying that searches for Greek island holidays have more than doubled for 2014 compared with 2013. Searches in October and November for Greece grew 128 percent from a year earlier, the biggest rise among all destinations.

Bookings for Greece in 2014 are also showing a major increase, amounting to 36 percent.

The tourism industry in Greece has set the barrier even higher for this year... representatives of the Association of Hellenic Tourism Enterprises (SETE) estimated that foreign arrivals in 2014 will reach 18.5 million while tourism revenues will hit 13 billion euros.

SETE also estimated that the sum of direct and indirect revenues will amount to 35 billion euros and 50,000 new jobs will be created, as tourism prospects for 2014 are particularly favorable provided that the country’s political stability is maintained.

Booked our 14 days in September, reckon we might be able to float over there the amount of water pouring into Kent/UK this month.  :btd:

Booked for Katelios in June. That will be our first non-September visit. Looking forward to seeing different Flora and Fauna, but will of course have to go in September as well just to check the comparison.

Bookings from big tourism markets grow 10 pct

Bookings for tourism packages from abroad this year seem to confirm expectations for an all-time record in arrivals to Greece, according to the head of the Hellenic Hoteliers Federation, Yiannis Retsos.

Retsos said that bookings from Germany, Britain and Russia – Greece’s main markets – are 10 percent above those recorded at the same time last year.
