Ionian hoteliers protest against lower VAT rates on Aegean islands

A civil war of sorts appears to have broken out among Greek hoteliers as seven Ionian Sea associations of owners of hotels, rooms and food service enterprises have sent a letter of strong protest to the ministers of economy and finance regarding the favorable value-added tax status that their counterparts on the Aegean islands enjoy.

The associations say they are not against the reduced VAT rates for remote and unpopular islands, but are vehemently opposed to lower rates on islands such as Myconos and Rhodes. Instead, they say Ionian islands such as Ithaca (pictured), Paxi, Othoni and Erikousa should have benefited from such a measure.

Sounds as though the poisonous Lagocephalus sceleratus (a.k.a. silver-cheeked toadfish) has reached Kef, heard one has been caught in the nets of a fishing boat from Poros.

Seems version 38.0.6 won't be delivered to most Firefox users.

I certainly wept gushes of tears when I heard that ERT was back.  Not ones of joy, though.   :oki:

Thanks Maik - very helpful.  Looks like the Syriza led government are trying to establish the principle of flexibility about dates.  Doesn't seem like the Institutions can do much if the Greeks say they'll pay up a few weeks (?months) late.

We're on Paxos for the big one on 30 June so will be interesting to see what happens!

We're on Paxos for the big one on 30 June

Glad you mentioned that as it reminds me: today we were told to stop offering exchange for Swiss francs, Australian dollars and Swedish krona. No reason given, other than the instruction came from the bank. Still doing exchange for GBP and USD.

 :hmm:
