Greek Bureaucrats had Threatened to Stop Filming ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’

Nicholas Cage had to register as a tambourine player in an amateur gypsy band of the Greek island of Kefalonia, in order to act in the Hollywood blockbuster Captain Corelli’s Mandolin.

This extraordinary story was revealed by reputable Greek director Pantelis Voulgaris, who lamented the bureaucratic obstacles imposed on foreign film productions in Greece.

Er.. so the rest of the crew could just be... actors??!  In actual fact it is also little known that the Beatles' hit was going to be called We all Live in a Yellow Tambourine until they found out that Dylan originally wrote Hey, Mr. Submarine Man.

Well he couldn't really register as an actor so I guess the authorities worked with his strengths  ;)
