Queuing, cricket, tea and other 'quintessentially British' things celebrated in new range of 10p coins

Queuing, cricket and tea represent what it means to be British, according to the Royal Mint, which has launched a new collection of 10 pence coins to showcase the "A to Z of what makes Britain great".

A collection of 2.6 million "quintessentially British" coins will be circulated by the Royal Mint on Thursday, decorated with a range of images designed to encapsulate British identity.

There are 28 designs, one for each letter of the alphabet.

The final designs, inspired by a public vote, were chosen by the Royal Mint Advisory Committee to showcase "The A to Z of what makes Britain great."

Designs include the Angel of the North and James Bond, as well as engravings showcasing the Loch Ness Monster, a post box, the world wide web, the National Health Service, and King Arthur.

JMO but some definite boo-boos there. M for Mackintosh? Is that the best they could come up with? Fish and chips are truly a great British invention but... so is football. Instead sport is represented by cricket. Why not P for paint drying? Surely C should be for curry - what's more British than that?

I thought ice cream cones were Italian!  Some alternative quintessentially Brit items:

   Leaves on the line
   Chicken tikka masala
   Tax havens
   Party political broadcasts...

Any more?!

"inspired by a public vote" - where, when, who

I think the designs were picked by Year 3 at Midsomer Primary School.

It's so un-PC I'm surprised there hasn't been a hoo-ha.

If we're talking quintessentially British then surely B should be for Brexit, what's more British than not being part of the EU?

I is for Immigration and X for Xenophobia.

Y for Yeoman is OK but the spelling needs correcting. It's Yo, man!

Z is for 'za, apparently street-speak for pizza - as quintessentially British as chicken tikka masala.
