*Very* high risk of fire on Kef tomorrow, Friday, according to civilprotection.gr. Haven't heard that Ainos remains closed to the public but I'd think it highly likely to be the case.

Officially the risk of new bush fires on Kef today, Saturday, 05 September, is rated as medium by civilprotection.gr. Yesterday's fire that started in Minies and spread to Lakithra and Helmata was under control yesterday evening but new fires threaten Poros area with fires near Anninata, Agia Eirini, Kampitsata and Kapandriti - the municiaplity has advised residents of Kapandriti to evacuate to Agios Yeorgios (presumably the school building?) a.s.a.p. with their small pets (ideally in cages), medicines, bottle of water, cell phone, torch, ID such as passport, a wet towel, face covering and small, portable valuables. Evacuees are requested to turn off the electric and water supply to their home, provided doing so doesn't endanger them.

Emergency contact numbers: 6947 620712 / 6944 602492

edit: Heard the fire's being tackled by over one hundred firefighters, not sure if that figure includes extras brought in from the mainland, I gather more are expected in the morning. Too dark for aerial firefighting, pretty certain to commence at first light.

Much of Greece at Increased Risk of Wildfires on Wednesday

Much of Greece is at a “very high” risk of wildfires on Wednesday, according to an announcement by government officials.

Authorities stated that much of the mainland, including the regions of Attica, Evia, central Greece, and the Peloponnese are at an “orange,” or very high, risk level for wildfires.

The islands of Kythira, Skyros, Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Ikaria, Crete, along with all of the Cycladic islands, are also at a dangerously increased risk for wildfires.

High temperatures and strong winds this week make for an especially dire combination in terms of the possibility of wildfires breaking out around the country.

In case of wildfires, citizens are urged to call 199 to reach firefighters for aid.
