Fraport Greece: Renovations, upgrades at all 14 regional airports completed by 2021

Germany's Fraport, the lead partner in the Fraport Greece consortium, said renovations and upgrades at half of the 14 airports it manages in the east Mediterranean country will have been completed by mid 2019.

The German company added that another four airport renovation projects, out of the total of 14 facilities around Greece, will be ready by 2020, and the rest by the summer of 2021.

Landing, Parking Fees Set To Rise at 14 Greek Airports

Landing and parking fees at the 14 international airports in Greece managed by Fraport are set to increase—and, in some cases, double—starting April 1.

Haven't found any up-to-date info on when work at Kef airport will be completed. Looks (to me) as though Kef will 'escape' with a (comparatively) low increase for landing.

Changing the face of regional airports

Although the main construction work is set to begin after September in order to avoid creating problems for passengers during the summer season, the aim is to have seven of the 14 airports ready next year. The head of Fraport Greece and of parent company Fraport AG, Stefan Schulte, recently said that the timetable provides for the airports of Zakynthos, Kavala and Hania to be ready before the summer of 2019, while those of Argostoli on Cephalonia, of Aktio, of Samos and of Skiathos after the summer of 2019.

The company’s four-year plan also provides for the creation of five new terminals in Thessaloniki, Kos, Corfu, Cephalonia and Mytilini, as well as much-needed development and upgrading projects for all the airports. These include increasing the number of check-in booths, screening and security points and luggage conveyor belts, while extensive upgrades will also be made in regard to airport safety, such renewing the tarmac on landing strips, installing HBS inline screening systems for luggage monitoring and constructing or renovating fire stations.

In total, the surface of the terminals in all 14 airports will expand by about 100,000 square meters, thereby considerably strengthening their capacity.

Fraport Greece took over the airports on April 11, 2017, and has activated an investment program of 415 million euros. The first step was taken late last year with work at the airports of Myconos and Cephalonia...

Cephalonia airport is also receiving upgrades, as Fraport is repairing its air-traffic control tower and the central terminal building of the Ionian island. Among the other interventions currently being implemented at the Anna Pollatou Airport in Argostoli is the cleaning of the main trench drains in the restricted-access area, as well as upgrading of the main runway, whose lifespan has also expired.

According the timetable of Fraport Greece... all of the work being planned will have been completed by 2021.

Does anyone know why the Ryanair flights to Stansted on last monday and thursday were delayed by nearly two hours?  Anything to do with repairs?

Nothing to do with repairs. Maybe to do with ATC restrictions in UK airspace for the first few weeks of April?

French ATC disruption, supporting French Railway and Air France strikes?

"...the unions are demanding a pay increase of 6 per cent; the airline is offering 1 per cent.
They have announced additional strikes on 10, 11, 17, 18, 23 and 24 April 2018..."

Sorry, BeeTee, but - as I've said - this is an English-language message board and links should be to articles in English with no requirement to use automatic translators.

Here's the video you mentioned, (mostly) in English as you say but hardly inspirational or informational, I couldn't watch all 28 minutes of it:

Oh yes, Sorry Maik. I was more interested in the video as the speaker was speaking English. I did watch all the video and as you say not exactly inspiring so 28 mins of my life I won't get back.

Airport Privatization Not Always Best Option, IATA Says

The privatization of airports is not always the best option, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which called on governments during its 74th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Sydney on June 3-5, to place priority on balancing the interests of consumers, airlines, investors, citizens and economies.

Approximately 14 percent of the world’s airports have some level of privatization, handling about 40 percent of global traffic.

“Airlines have not yet experienced an airport privatization that has fully lived up to its promised benefits over the long term,” the chief of IATA added.

First Burger King Restaurant Opens in Greece

Ideal for people who don't like to eat that foreign muck on holiday  :iroll:

Perhaps even the revamped Kef airport will be too small.

The word on the street (or runway) was that the new airport here would get a Goody's but Burger King is just as good. Would you like fries with that?

I'd be surprised if market research supports the notion that what the Greek islands really need are Burger King outlets.

Fraport Greece announces fee hikes next year at 3 airports whose upgrades will finish by end of 2018

Fraport Greece this week announced that it will increase fees at three airports whose upgrades will be completed by the end of the year, namely, at Hania, Kavala and Zakynthos. The hikes will take effect as of April 1, 2019.

Based on a concession agreement signed between Fraport Greece and the Greek state, the company can increase per passenger fee from 13 euros to 18.5 euros once agreed to upgrades are completed.

Pending hikes in the same fee is expected for the other 11 regional airports that the German-Greek company manages around the east Mediterranean country.

Regional airports set for takeoff

The 14 regional airports across Greece that the German-led Fraport Greece group operates are showing significant prospects for their commercial development, such as the opening of more stores and food service points, given that the rise in passenger numbers and improvement of services at the terminals is convincing more companies to invest in them.

A case in point is the recent agreement with US fast-food chain Burger King, which launched its first outlet in Greece at Rhodes Airport three months ago.

Fraport posts record passenger traffic in its 14 regional airports for 2018

Among the airports with the highest rate of passenger traffic are the airports of Kefalonia (+ 21%)...

It is estimated that in the period 2017-2018, Fraport managed to increase passenger traffic in the 14 regional airports by a total of over 19%.
http://en.protothema.gr/fraport-posts-record-passenger-traffic-in-its-14-regional-airports-for-2018/

Sounds like a busy summer for Kef but not sure how much credit Fraport deserve for that. Did anyone book their holiday on the basis the airport was operated by Fraport? I think not. When there's a downturn in demand for Kef will Fraport accept the blame for fewer arrivals? I think not.

Approximately 13 million passengers are going through the 14 regional airports managed by Fraport Greece every year, while the number is expected to exceed 35 million once infrastructure upgrade works are completed, according to the company’s CEO Alexader Zinell.

Just wondering if destinations (such as Kef) can handle a 300% increase in tourists  :hmm:
