Hopefully for the people who are perpetrating this desecration.

It's a Holiday Camp just like just like Butlins is now.

Which reminds me, what news from Katelios, and the wooden tents?

No wooden tents as yet Tony but lots of ground works, including widening the main road after the bridge and it looks like a new road going in again after the bridge and by the river. Mind you, we have rain/storms predicted for the next couple of days, so don't think there'll be much happening for the duration. Watch this space...

Some piccies from Katelios this morning. Trenches mostly in-filled but looks like remains of a wall might have been found a metre or so beneath the surface at the end of the beach.

Nice pics of Katelios Maik - thanks.  Shame it will significantly affect the view coming into Katelios from Skala:

Had an interesting conversation with a couple of people recently about the Katelios Glamping.

Firstly, according to Elvis in the Skala bread shop, there are going to be 200 cabins, which will take 2 years to build - needless to say, everyone is concerned as to where all the sewage will go...?!!

Also, the track they had started to clear near the river has been stopped, because this river is one of only two that run all year round on the island and apparently there is a 'law' which states that any track/road should be built at least 20 metres away - and this certainly isn't!

Hey-ho! :oki:

I agree, the view is beautiful as you come down the hillside. Reckon it will look like a P.O.W CAMP!!Find it so hard to understand the planners ideas at times. It was bad enough when they approved "Flintstones Palace" as we call the monstrosity at the end of Skala beach, with its stupid four poster beach beds. Now some idiot thinks wood cabins can be acceptable. Perhaps it's as well we have maybe reached our travelling abroad limit, at our age and I wont see all the eyesores that are now being built in the name of progress. I will shut my eyes on the dark dismal nights and remember our Island Paradise as it was 20years ago and sigh for the good times!!!

Some pictures of the kilns, thought to be from the Byzantine era, discovered on the Santa Barbara site. There seems to be 5 kilns uncovered, but I would guess there are more under the land adjacent to the beach.

Can't any of you import a few Great crested newts or some big eared bats ,or doesn't it work like that in Greece?

Tony

PS Maybe someone could say it was part of Odysseus' palace - and that's where Homer had described it all along!?

It would all depend on the number and denomination of the used notes found in the envelope by that nice government person.

Any more news on the desecration of Santa Barbara?  Was it all just a bad dream?

Morning Campers....

I've received an email from the highest (and closest) contact I have to this development, and it includes an assurance that the newly established historical nature of the site has changed the plans.

Except for "a new bar down at the sea", everything is on hold for two years, with a fresh plan for "a couple of bungalows only" thereafter.

As with most things Kef, there is no guarantee of course, but to their credit my source was 100% correct when they told me last May about the changes to come at Dream's Beach Bar. A year prior to that, they'd correctly advised the start of excavations for the wooden tents (and directed my attention to the trial builds at the top of Kaminia beach)

Roll on May, June, September and October.
I've a desire to get back out there this year that I've not had for a while.
I blame the Argostoli webcam....very evocative.

With the sea only yards away, nothing would surprise me, Maik.
